Anyone here know why motorbike riders with race pipes fitted hardly ever get done ??...

Where if your car made about the same amount of noise you be pulled in no time.....

My exhaust is pretty loud, and there are plenty with screamer pipes and huge turbos that are much louder. I think its about where you boot it, and the car its on. If you have a badly modified hot hatch 5 up giving it beans through a town centre you're asking for trouble.

I know very very few people ever to get pulled for their exhaust. And that's saying something as I live in Essex and soon to have one myself :p :D

EDIT: Dad's bike is pretty damn loud and he's had it since 2000 and have never once been pulled. Despite going through numerous tunnels suspiciously in neutral revving it :p

I wish the cars round here would get pulled for exhaust volume, some of the Corsa's that go past at the exact same time every night are horrendous :(

Been pulled on the bike once and they said nothing about the exhaust.

Pretty loud? Probably the loudest road car i've ever heard!

I don't think you are any more likely to get pulled in a car though, I know plenty of people with big exhausts and only one has ever been pulled for it.

Maybe it's because motorbike riders are more responsible and don't make excessive noise....

Oh wait :p haha. I can't help but backfire my bike when I'm in a tunnel, or going though a busy little village or something lol. Pedestrian shooting is the best,

Likewise.

Some of the cars that drive around here on a regular basis have ear splitting exhausts.

Mind you, thats because most of the boy racer muppets insist on ragging the life out of these little powerless hatchbacks at max revs in second gear. :p

To be honest, I think a lot of the time to most "non-bikers" a bike zorst is perceived as being "loud", when in fact, it only "sounds" loud, if you know what I mean?.

It also depends on the type of bike.

V-Twins for example, will always ( 99% of the time ) sound louder than inline 4 cyl bikes. I've got twin Renegade high mount exhausts on my Aprilia RSV and with the baffles removed, its only very slightly louder than a stock can at tickover. Rev it, yeah, its louder, but in more of a deep toned way rather than simple decibels.

I've had exhausts that will set off car alarms with ease - but I'm sensible and considerate and consequently keep the revs down in built up areas and don't drive like a tit. Keep it under 1500RPM and people would more feel it than hear it, or just get a gentle 'blubblubblublub' :D

Also - the exhaust note itself was not unpleasant, grating or antisocial which is one of the key things.

Something like a Civic or Corsa with a big bore exhaust can sound really, really horrible and deafening - especially if it's particularly raspy or tinny. Plus it has to be going at full chat to get anywhere :p

My old portable alarm sounder:

See! Not an 'unpleasant' noise :)

If cars got pulled more often than bikes for loud pipes, people wouldn't build 4 open pipes in to the back of their euro cap-boxes.

I've got pulled a couple of times for loud pipes on the bike. Never been fined though.

I got pulled over the other night and told off for my loud exhaust, but I think that's cause my car was having severe idle issues (sitting at 2000rpm :() They were pulling everyone over though, looking for a robber I think! never had a problem in the past when pulled over either

Never been pulled for a loud exhaust on either my car or bike and both have free flowers on them. You are in control of the throttle and can keep the noise down when you want to so as long as you don't take the pee you'll be fine. The two times I have been stopped in my car (going to fast around corners apparently?) my exhaust never got mentioned and on bikes I must have been pulled over several times and the exhaust has never been mentioned either.

Like said a lot think the grass is always greener but it never is when it comes to cars / bikes.

stick a race can on, put a sticker over the not for road use engraving or polish it out - job done. The police won't/aren't allowed to remove the sticker to check so you get away with it, presumably if they happened to have a sound level meter you'd get nailed, but there isn't much chance of that

never really heard of anyone getting pulled for a loud car exhaust, know a few people who's been pulled on bikes though but never charged due to the sticker trick...seems a bit daft

Is the Db limit the same for both? As i always thought they were different on the road or on the track in favor of bikes?
