I'm stuck between choosing between these two cameras. From what I have read the F40fd has better image qaulity than the F50fd although lacks some of the controls.

Not that it means much but the F50fd has a 12MP sensor compared to the 8MP of the F40fd and has and has IS and a larger screen. Which would you go for?:)

The image quality of the F40fd pulls me towards it yet the F50fd has the larger LCD and IS.

it's a camera so surely image quality is king? I'd go for the f40 or if second hand doesn't bother you an f31 which was a superior camera.

Just to throw in another suggestion, the F60fd is out very soon. Problem is its got a 12mp sensor again so unless Fuji have done some magic to stop noise its going to be a similar story to the F50fd. It might be worth hanging on and seeing what the reviews are like though.

I think I will go for the F40, I did have the f31fdbut I broke the screen on it and they are fetching silly money on eBay now. :/

I may stick out for the F60 to see the reviews but I need a camera in the next few weeks really for a gig.

Stick with the F40fd.
I bought the F100fd and the noise control on that was awful.i had to send it back.

Better to get something with a lower pixel count.

or better yet, get a canon.

I may well stick with the F40fd. I was looking at the Canon's, I read a review of the IXUS 80 IS though and it didn't seem that great. :/

I just got the IXUS 860 IS and its really good, extremely fast and noise levels are good. Got a 8mp sensor and image stabilisation. Worth a look as its quite cheap on the highstreet right now.

Get the F40, it's as close as you'll get to the F31 minus the manual controls. My F31 slipped a small height and broke - poor build quality so I was in the same position.
