Ok, so I've been living in Reading for the past two to three months, been out a few times but don't normally have the time or people about to do it. When I have been into central Reading for drinks there have been bars and things, but they seemed a bit scattered and all seemed to be 'club' music.

I've possibly got a mate coming down next weekend that wants to go to a rock club, rather than a normal club or pub (can do pub if there are no decent rock clubs about).

Biascally, OcUK Reading people...where can I find a rock club in Reading? :)

Where abouts is that? Not great on what is where in Reading as I only live there, I work in Guildford, so am not in the house much. :)

EDIT: Found it on the web, seems to be a bar/club that sometimes plays rock stuff...is a start though. :)

I was going to say Purple Turtle too, it's a bit grotty but I much prefer it to the rubbish nightclubs in town. The people can be a bit weird in there though!

Face Bar has a rock night on, think the After Dark has too. The Purple Turtle will be churning out rock most nights too, downstairs is usually drum and bass.

Hmmm, no specific places then? :(

Surprised really, Bournemouth has one (Sound Circus) and so does Plymouth (can't remember the place), so I figured there would be a mostly rock place that plays other stuff too.

May just have to tell her "can't find one, looks like it's pub + talk". :)

purple turtle is near the church by the oracle. If you know of zero degrees (nice micro brewery). I have heard after dark has a reasonable night.

Enjoy!

Ok, well that's cool, I'll check up on it closer to the time, and if it looks like it won't be rock we can just pub it. Either is good for the both of us, she just seems to want to go to a rock night...apparently she's not danced in months so would rather do that than go to a pub. :)

The purple turtle is probably the closest to a rock club, which is a shame as nowadays it isn't that great. The Rising sun by the station is a metal/biker pub and has live bands. The turks has changed hands and I don't think its a metal pub anymore, but haven't been there since july. The face bar has decent metal nights.

The fez club (now known as sakura (sp) ) used to be really good for rock and metal, but I rode past it the other day and it looks like it has turned into yet another poncy club with expensive drinks :/

Yep - its a 3 story revs now.

Turtle is a good laugh, although no one is ever inside. Everyone is out the back smoking

Hmmmm, well neither of us smoke...at least I don't think she does, didn't see a fag in her hand when I was last with her, so it'd be an inside thing really, especially if she wants to dance (as much as you can to rock/metal/etc.), which I guess means she'll just have to put up with either a 'normal' club or just sitting drinking in my local.
The fact she wants to dance kind of rules out pubs with live bands really I think, I don't know, I'll check them out as best I can and see what she wants to do.

Cheers guys. :)

Yep. I was in last night...everyone is just chilling outside these days. Still like it tho.

Saukura is definately poncy and full of nobbers. Shame as the Fez Club used to be ace...always had good bands on.

Afterdark...not been there for ages. Used to be a bit minging - but always lots of crazy dancing going on.

Only been to the Purple Turtle once.

However, good tunes (if you like Alternative/Rock/Metal) and a good environment to drink and have an an awesome time.

Only thing that less cluby was the lack of dance floor to mosh on (depends how desperate you are to dance I suppose).

Yey for Reading people! Im so glad its got more going on than Canterbury where i used to live, mind you that isnt hard now is it! :D

Yeah, but it appears to have less than places I used to live in and go out in...and huge compared to them.

EDIT: I would check out the places mentioned this weekend...but I can't do that, I'd be all by myself and that's just sad!

Then go out in London! Its only half an hour down the line :D

Unfortunatly , Other than the mentioned there really is nothing. Reading is just not the place for rock you might think it would be , with the origins of the festival and all :(

Yeah, but that's half an hour down the line. :p

I live about 20mins (bus) from the town centre, so it's always a right trek just to get to/from work (work in Guildford). Plus she'll be coming from the London direction, so that's just mean, getting her to travel on the trains loads. :p

Never thought of it like that, I just thought 'big town/citything, there must be clubs of all sorts', I mean Plymouth and Bournemouth aren't very big, but they both have a couple of rock places, and others that do rock nights etc.

So where did you go then last night?

I did the town last night. Was a good laugh but im feeling it today. I capped off the evening by managing to convince two lads not to give another lad a good kicking. A job well done I thought.
