I noticed that the ID super pack on Steam is half price this weekend. $41.11 USD or about £23.24. Convince me that I should buy this or not.

Commander Keen

Wolfenstein 3D
Spear of Destiny + Return to Danger + Ultimate Challenge
Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Ultimate Doom
Doom II + Master Levels
Final Doom
Doom 3 + Resurrection of Evil

Heretic + Shadow of the Serpent Riders
Hexen + Deathkings of Dark Citadel
Hexen II

Quake + Scourge of Armagon + Dissolution of Eternity
Quake II + Ground Zero + The Reckoning
Quake III Arena + Team Arena

So tempted... but it's Steam...

Aargh... I promised myself i'd get around to completing Heretic someday as well...

Well I have yet to play Doom 3, and I never actually owned any of the quakes and fancy a play through again. The rest would just be icing on the cake which will go very nicely with my new yet gameless Atom Netbook.

Jono has kindly pointed this out to me and I gotta say its a bargain!

Bought it straight away!

I can't wait now for them to finish, although it is humping my internet connection :p

Yeah if using your card to buy it check how much your bank charges you for currency conversion, despite having a separate store from US, Valve still insist on dollars.

You are effectively paying for RTCW, Q3A and Doom III with addons. So, three £5 bargain bin games for £30. The rest is pretty much pixeltastic on our large screens these days. Pack doesn't include Q4, Heretic2 or Quake Wars, which would make it pretty good value.

Quake isn't pixeltastic at all if you bolt on an updated client mod together with enhanced textures and models; in fact ezquake is probably the most technologically advanced (rendering aside) FPS client there is when you look at all the features it has. With Quake2 being opensource as well I imagine you can get it looking OK too. Although to be fair, I'm not sure how easily the Steam version of these games can be modded, that's something I'd need to look into.

To be fair I know where you are coming from, in the sense that a lot of the content will do little more than clog up a gig or so of hd space - you're probably not actually going to spend more than half an hour messing around with those old classics.

Must admit I'm tempted though as some of those games would be very hard to get hold of now. I borrowed RTCW years ago but got stuck on like the 3rd level or summat, maybe I should give it another go....

Bit of a shame sterling has plummeted so much against the dollar over the past month (around 10%) as it'd be slightly better value otherwise.
Bear in mind that the price includes VAT though, it's $34.99 before tax.

Bought it last year , its worth it as I didnt own Quake 2 or 3 anymore or Castle wolfenstein and doom 3

The older games havent held up too well though

I hate it when they do this. I only bought it about 3 weeks ago, mainly for Doom III + RoE. Those two games make it worth this bargain price alone.

Bah, and this has happened when I don't have my debit card D:

It will probably be closer to £30 once you add VAT but it's still a bargain.

I worked out that price by taking the including VAT price in $ and firing it into xe.com. Basically any difference you pay will be how much commission your bank charges for the transaction, but it won't be quite as high as £30.
