Where to remap or chip a car?

Yes it does.

No.

It doesn't sound close to a 6cyl true but it doesn't sound like a Golf or Mondeo or whatever either.

It's as i said above, it sounds perfectly fine for a 2litre engine and sounds decent at higher revs (not like it's struggling or choking or whatever the term is called like the 1.9litre engine used to)

Our old 318Ci sounded like it had a four cylinder engine. :(

It sounds like a 4-cyl. A larger 4-cyl, but a 4-cyl non the less.

They certainly don't sound "good".

Yes, it does sound like a 4 cylinder engine.

The 318i sounds awful, worse than most other similar engines. A bit like the noise of a deep fart mixed with a sack full of spanners being shaken. I know, I drive one on a regular basis!

You'll finally come round once you get a car with a proper engine ;)

It was debadged by default? I'd debadge it anyway regardless of what it was, the only car I'd keep the badge on is an m3 or m5 or something like that, everything else gets a clean rear.

So this sounds "awful" (Excuse the poor quality of the camera mic but you get the idea)?
I suppose it's only really audible when accelerating anyway, cruising you don't hear the engine at all, not enough to be audible over the road noise anyway.

It doesnt sound good or bad, it just sounds like a normal 4-pot engine. I disagree with the people slagging the 318 models off though, not everyone is interested in performance and the associated costs involved with that, yet still want a nice looking well engineered coupe.

Precisely! as said above, it sounds like a larger 4cyl engine and has a fairly decent note at high revs which you can make out a bit in the video before the mic cuts out.

Least it isn't a tractor :p

The 318 is a great car for those not interested in performance. It has just enough power in reserve to take care of most overtaking and the handling is so well balanced that it's quite fun to drive. It will never sound good though.

I can't listen to that audio clip but I doubt it sounds any different to my mum's. From the inside of the car, the engine note is okay but from the outside it is awful.

Comparing it to a 6 cylinder version, that is.

Nobody was comparing it to a 6cyl :p btw Are you sure you don't mean the other way round? mine sounds better from the outside than from the inside since you can't hear much from the inside!

remapping is not just about OMGZ BHP!!!.

The difference between a stock R32 and a remapped one is a world apart. Throttle response is better, and smoother, powerdelivery is constant with no losses of torque across the range, and best of all you get better fuel economy.

However you won't notice any of that on a remap of a Vauxhall 1.4 engine.
