A couple of pages in there is a thread on becoming a driving instructor, and a few people said they wouldn't do a job that topped out at around 30k. So what jobs would you do/do/are training to do that will earn you (eventually) well over 30k + ?

Interestingly enough there is a tecaher near me who is a millionaire. Not sure how he did it though.

Some people are rich and do something because they want to. Not as a means to earn a living.

I'm planning on staying on the railway. Next job up is team leader which is 27k basic. But in reality will be at least 32k with shift allowance, job allowances and a little overtime.

Not sure where I want to end up. But plenty of jobs around the 40k mark

Did he win the lottery?

After Police training I'll be starting on £30.5k (Met) which rises 1k a year. After 2 years probation I can apply for a specialist section not sure of the pay for each one but I'd presume it'll at least be £35k.

Nice pay especially as I'm only 23 but it's London so it needs to be really.

Where I live i'll be happy to earn 20k, im more focused to a job I'd enjoy not too bothered about pay. But it would be kool to have a job I love with awesome pay

Engineering, if you are willing to put the overtime in. Get an extra 40% just for working 4on-4off shift pattern. I wouldnt change it, 12 hour shifts, but plenty of lieu days, and plenty of days off anyway.

Doing a law degree, then law exams (LPC) then starting work straight away you can be 22yrs old on the Trainee Salary.

24yrs old on the NQ salary!

Accountant. Start on around £18k (Outside London) and then go to £32k after three years (once you're qualified).

I have just started my first year as a newly qualified teacher. My pay rises steadily year on year to just under £30,000 (for about the next 6 years). After which I can take on extra responsbilities and/or seek promotion and this will see my pay go beyond the £30,000 mark.

I'm on a work placement in the IT/Finance sector of a petrol company and I'm on a £25k salary (first proper job). Graduate jobs at the company have a basic starting salary of around £30-35k.

I wouldn't mind continuing to work here after I graduate, however having worked casually in the sports and entertainment industries, it is quite boring (obviously)! I've also noticed there's a sort of "elite" culture amongst my colleagues - they'll splash out on ridiculous stuff (£150 bottles of vodka on a night out, Aston Martins, strippers etc.) however I come from a modest background so I'm happy without the desire for all that.

So in conclusion, I would'nt mind working any job knowing that it tops £30k in the long run. I've come to realise money isn't everything and whilst I could easily earn over that when I graduate, I would take a working environment I enjoy every time.

I find it unfortunate how people are easily misguided by money. Man was put on this earth with the basic instincts to surive and that is all you really need - food, shelter, clothes. Everything else you can enjoy for free - nature and other people. Money is simply a currency for trade and realistically we don't need all the things that we work for. Sometimes I think how funny it is how hard everyone works and how much people get wound up with bills and such when they don't take a step back and think - do we really need all this? It's also very sad how people use salaries as a measurement of how "great" they are in society. It just highlights how greed has developed a personal (subconscious) trait in everyone in a modern working society.

this isnt a jibe at you acidhell. Just annoys me at my wage with my specific job, im in intensive care nurse and make life saving decisions all the time and im on the same if not just slightly more than you.

just being grouchy i guess and yes you could argue that i know the job was poorly paid when i took it.

whats even further wrong with my job is that if i take a promotion, i dont do unsocial hours so i tripple my repsonsabilities for less money.

I used to be a bin man stuck in a dead end job with no prospects, now thanks to Computeach I am an IT Manager with a company car and benefits.

Still stuck in a crappy job! ;)

Side affects may include no life until you retire after having a heart attack at 30 caused by stress.

7am - 5pm for five days a week. Not too bad.

Edit: stress isn't really an issue for traders. If you're a crap trader you're out within two years. If you're good, you have little to worry about. Traders tend only to take intra-day positions so stress can very much be contained regardless. You are thinking more along the lines of bankers in M&A who do indeed work 90-100 hr weeks and have continued periods of stress.

Personally I'd be more worried about job security, computers will probably replace traders.

There are many types of trader and many different products traded. Cash equities is an example that will be replaced largely by algorithms and computers. Others will live on. Complex derivatives are ever-evolving.
