Stopping sales calls?

At the moment we are getting a lot of sales calls coming through.

Some days we can have up to 3 or more different companies phoning up which is really annoying.

What can we do to reduce the amount of calls? Do we have to go to BT and ask them to do it, or is there a website that you can go to (seem to remember a website being posted a while back with info on how to stop them)

Thanks. :)

I have signed upto TPS but still get some coming through (international numbers) is there any way of stopping these?

yes also swear words work too and pretending to be your local takeaway is funny to play along with them as well

A few times when I was in a bad mood i'd just make out I was a kid and say that I would get my parents for them and then leave them hanging. The majority of the time though I find "no thank you" followed by hanging up works quite well. Although once they did phone back to tell me how rude it was to hang up on someone!

We phoned BT, paid some small fee and numbers are supposed to get wiped from databases. We get the rare ocassional one through and explain to them that our number should not be on their database and don't expect any more calls from them.

Failing that, tell them they've got the wrong number!

I make out I'm interested in their product then ask them to hold on - whilst I put the phone in a desk drawer and close it.

Make sure you confirm the name of the company they're calling for and inform them that as a matter of principle you do not buy from companies that bother you at home with sales calls. If that's done often enough, it might reduce the overall use of the technique.

I hardly get any since signing up with the TPS, but those I do get now are recorded messages. Maybe once a month I'll come home to find a recorded message recorded on my answerphone, almost always from the USA telling me to press 1 to win a holiday, blah blah. They're even more annoying than sales people.
