Just a quick question, my Q6600 is arriving tomorrow and I just wanted to know if I will have anything in particular I need to do when replacing my e6300?

Is it a simple case of take one out, put the other in and voila it should load up with the default cpu settings? or is that just too simple?

Yup reject delivery and order yourself a year 2008 45nm power efficient CPU :o

Just in case you think I am being unhelpful and choose you keep your 65nm wattage monster then maybe reset your BIOS back to defaults before you power down before the swap.

Still can't believe you just bought a Q6600 Energy Inefficient Edition, I can see the whole of the Motherwell being plunged into darkness once you start overclocking that thing! :p

nothing wrong with q6600 tbh. OP didn't even say if it was brand new from etailer.

it's a simple swap, as said make sure you put all cpu settings to default before dropping the new chip in.

Unfortunately wayne the compatibility on my mobo can be sketchy at best with the 45nm's even altho there is a bios update and since I didnt fancy a mobo upgrade as well its the way I fancied going....made most sense to me lol!

Anyways il do a bios reset before the install!

*Edit* was brand new but only cost £101 :)

What a load of balls - Q6600s overclock better than a lot of the 45nm quads, who gives a crap about the wattage when you can run them @ 3.5GHz idling at 29C. Price performance = a great buy.

Biggest losers imo are the people buying expensive 45nm quads for premium price with little or no gain over the 65nm. I'm not switching 'till i7 and will stay content with my £115 Q6600 :p If you want proof - check out any of the benchmarks tables in the graphics section - see how high up the q6600s are!

Back on topic- that's the exact switch I made (e6300 to q6600) and I had no issues what so ever. I rest bios to default and put the quad in. Simple as.

I cannot believe you said that :D Switch on the oven to cook something for several hours and on average you have used enough power to run any CPU for a week or more, whether it be ifficient or inifficient. ;):D

Well Iv got my chip in now mate and it all went smoothly! Need to get me some arctic silver but on my Zalman 9500CU LED I have it clocked straight to 3.0Ghz no problem on default volts and it is idling on the cores from 25-32 so not too bad, max is around 45 when load with these settings! Quite happy :)

Yeh it's a great chip! I upgraded to the Q6600 from an E2180, best £60 I ever spent on PC's!

Don't see the point in spending over £200 for a 45nm quaddie when i7 is just around the corner.
