I expect it's the patch that does it. I talk to the guide who quips about being blindfolded then says ok i'll take you and nothing happens. There are no baddies left anywhere on the map. Quite annoying really.
 
I'm really enjoying it. I love the realism of not being able to go running at enemies like Rambo. You've got to keep your head down or YOU WILL lose a large chunk of your health. I also like the damage model. One or two headshots will take a Stalker down whereas a shotgun shot from a distance will be absorbed by their armour and merely stagger them.
I use nHancer and I've had to drop the AF right down to 2x and have no AA at all. However, I'm running on maximum quality with more or less everything maxxed out in 1680 res and it looks and runs sweet. I'm running in full dynamic lighting because if I try in enhanced, fps drops to single figures.
I've got an E6750 slightly overclocked and an 8800GTX also overclocked. I'm running the game on 'Stalker' difficulty.
I'm sad also. I'm going to play tonight too.

This game runs like poo
Installed the patch, I get anywhere around 80FPS (4XAA 16XAF) and within a click of a finger its down to 5FPS on a Q6600@ 3.6CF 4870 setup. Hit the Esc key to menu and resume game it jumps back up again. Some serious problems need sorting before this is playable!!!!

ah... i'll see what happens when i get there AGAIN. i'll let you know what happens.
 
Looks like you can only pre-purchase on Steam, not pre-load, will have to download it when it unlocks on the 15th, so looks like i may pop out tomorrow to pick it up, dunno yet, just can't make my mind up.
 
I am enjoying the game, but the player hit/collision boxes really need to be sorted out. When a NPC comes anywhere near you go flying back 2 meters and shooting at enemies behind cover can also be a problem because what you see is not necessarily what you can hit.

looks great and runs better than expected considering the age of some of my components.

Wow! been trying these out and DX10, 'maximum' in game preset is giving me a definite improvement in FPS over what I remember from playing about last night.

Not got far yet as the game keeps CTD'ing, so plenty of saving at the moment :). GFX are really nice in motion, not so much stand out wow moments yet but nicely and subtly done. Lighting is fantastic again and my word when it rains. :)
 
well been playing for 2 hours now. crashed once when i was looking at my pda! (when looking at the NPP) really enjoying it so far.

dont think its as hard as everyone made out! (well so far anyway) going to the garbag now to meet someone.

sorry cant remember who said this, but it the guide wont take you to cordon you've got the wrong guide. (seems like they cant all take you everywhere) sorry if you'd alreay figured that out.

What does everyone else think?

how much is it on steam? i've seen it really cheap online! (cant remember exactly how much tho) like i've said before get both and play the new one 1st!

I'm lovin the new one! loved the first one too!
