I can now overtake properly, the difference really does feel worlds apart from the Focus 1.6.

I dont get it, you couldnt overtake properly in the focus?
i manage more than well enough and ours is a 1.6 auto, thats unless you are trying to overtake in a stupid place or pass a car that is currently goign rather fast itself.

That was an exaggeration, the focus just doesn't overtake very well unless you drop a few cogs and rev the nuts off it and pray. With the BMW I can stay in 5th/4th and overtake with no fuss at all :)

The Focus performance became really annoying after 2 years with the car :p

Massive massive step up from a focus, bet you are loving it :)

I am Jez. Still grinning at the moment. The step up in terms of quality etc are huge.

My 50k Focus was rattly and unrefined. My 120k BMW still feels tight as hell with no rattles and the engine is smooth as hell as you'd expect from a 6cyl

You can probably see why we all hate focus's etc so much when such good cars are available so cheaply. Just make sure you take it easy if its your first RWD vehicle, it has enough power to get into trouble in the wet if you arnt careful :)

One thing I know for sure now. You realise what all the fuss is about with BMW's when you actually own one.

As for taking care Jez. I'm driving like a total granny until I get used to it :D

Who is we? Focus's are recommended all the time on here:p

I think as soon as people hear the word BMW they automatically go OMGWTFEXPENSIVE! and avoid the brand because they think they can't afford it.

Thing is, for every budget there is a BMW or other decent car available which will be better than the focus.

But unfortunately people don't want the running costs of a BMW. Plus the fact most people only seem to buy cars with under 70k miles on them.

Alright then, I had a focus as a first car and still have one at the age of 19. Perhaps you would like to enlighten me as to a better car for a first car which offers the same sort of performance and low running costs for a student than a 1.6 focus. Oh and mine is chic spec so heated leather/cd changer etc.

To say there is ALWAYS a better car than the focus is silly. Yes for my £3k I could have got a bigger engined car with more toys. But insure it? Not a chance.
