However they don't cost half the price in a used market which the floor has fallen out of, that being the point :) In their class they compete very well, but is that really saying a lot?

That being the point when you can get insured on said larger engined cars ;)

I think saying that they compete very well in their class is saying a lot, is that not any cars purpose? To be the best in it's class? A humble Focus isn't going to be as well built as a 3 series, but they were never meant to be compared. Comapring it in it's class we can see that it's more reasonable than the Golf, got better handling than the Astra and won't break down or fall apart like the 307.

I suppose what i'm saying is that to some, yourself included a focus is gash, and it's gash because you have high standards. For those of us who have to have a small engined hatchback for whatever reason the focus is the best pick, and not so gash :)

I don't disagree with any of that and will stop ranting now :) I've just never liked them and never had any issues with insurance so would always pick an older better car instead.

you say that like it is a hard car to insure, it's a 320 ffs not an m3....

I suppose I would put the high cost of insurance in the same pile as higher servicing costs, more expensive tyres etc. etc. The sort of things that all add up and for a first car make a car like the focus a viable option over a bigger engined saloon. Especially to a cash strapped student :)

the tyres on a 320SE will cost ~£50-60 a corner max for even decent stuff, and servicing will cost next to nothing at an indy. I can't see insurance being more than like 10-20% more for a 320i vs a 1.6 zetec focus....at least from my quotes

But then you get to aspects like fuel consumption and repair bills...

I don't think anyone can honestly argue that a 6 cylinder BMW is on a similar level to a focus with regards to running costs. Doesn't fox always speak of banking a grand for repairs?

get a 318 then :p still miles better, but fuel isnt bad on them anyway, im averaging 25mpg + per tank atm

As said Lucas.

I put £20 in and the range from that was 130 miles in the 320

The range from £20 on my Focus 1.6 was 140 miles. In my experience the 1.6 is pretty uneconomical for what it is.

E46 saloons are not hard at all to get insured on. The coupe is a littler harder mind.

How old are you? Want to get a E46 320 or 330i as my next car but doing quotes for next year when I'm 20 with 2years NCB directline wants £1975 from me to insure a 320 whilst a 330 is out of the question. :(

No inside pics? I feed off interior pics!

Nice SILVER car :), the best colour.

Remap will only get me around 10BHP more afaik. Not sure if it's worth it?

Remap on mine only adds 10BHP too but the upside is better fuel economy, all flat spots gone or at the least minimised and better throttle response. It's £250-£300 though but is planned for the near future. If you drive a lot you'd probably make that money back over a period anyway so it's not that bad. A difference of 5MPG is a saving of around £250 a year for average driving miles on current average fuel costs so say within 1.5~ years you'd have made that remap cost money back - one way of looking at it I guess.
