Hiya, the other day the neighbours alarm went off. now the outside box has stopped ringing, but the internal box is still making abit of a racket which we can hear through the walls.. I was wondering if this is the kinda thing the council would sort out?

its abit of a pain in the bum when you are trying to sleep...
as its still going I guess the neighbours don't know about it, I haven't met them so I cannot even contact them to tell them.

The question iam asking is, if I rang the council, do they have the powers to go in and turn off the box? or at lest stop it from making noise?

Thanks.

People with alarms that aren't connected to the police station should be shot. They go on holiday and then their alarm goes off for some unknown reason and goes on and on for hours, and because it doesn't alert the police nothing gets done about it.

Alarms connected to the police? I can imagine that isnt cheap and required some sort of monthly monitoring charge by a 3rd party. I hate house alarms and dont use mine purely because they are a total waste of time, nobody cares if they go off and they make pretty much zero difference to contents insurance quotes, i would rather just secure my house properly.

Around here at least you are meant to notify the council of any alarms you fit, the notification form includes a contact number for someone who has the ability to turn them off if you're not there.

the tricky thing is.. its not the bell on the outside which is going off, its the internal box or whatnots, meaning they would need a key to get in.. :/ iam gonna ring newcastle council tomoz though i think.. this is reallly getting on my nerves now.. grr. damn neighbours.

I've just remembered something I did about 5 years ago one friday night when I'd had a few pints.
Our Neighbours From Hell burglar alarm went off around midnight an dit bought the whole street out.
Somebody said they'd gone on holiday so I got my ladders, lifted the box off and took the wires out.
To this day they don't know their alarm works:)

Don't fret, if anybody broke in they would tidy up - Our Neighbours From Hell
