FIFA World Cup Qualifying 06/09/08 ***SPOILERS***

I know the scoreline was a bit pants but i thought we had some good moments of play unlike most other internationals I've seen involving England. Downing shouldn't even be in the squad let alone the team, gave ball after ball away and his crossing was woeful. Cole and Barry were also very poor at distributing the ball after around 20 mins. Walcott seemed to go AWOL after getting body checked the 3rd time in a row with no foul forthcoming which is a shame as he was easily England's best player in the first half and had a couple of good bits of play in the 2nd too. Defoe was very wasteful but Heskey was far worse when he came on.
 
At the end of the day you can only play the opposition infront of you, they were stuck in for defence. Hopefully Croatia will play and match our pace and style IMO this brings the best out of the players.
 
Only managed to listen to it on radio were Downing and Rooney really as bad as they were saying? they were really laying into both, especially Downing
 
He was pretty much useless. I lost count of the amount of rubbish balls into the box from open, and set piece from him.

Can't see him starting against Croatia.
 
England were shocking again, no surprises there

The interesting parts were that even though Lampard was on his own in midfield (without Gerrard) he still didn't do **** all

Downing was utter ****

John Terry should realise he isn't Rio Ferdinand and he cant bring the ball out of defence and ping it 40 yards, the amount of times he knocked the ball out for an Andorran throw was ridiculous

Why is Heskey still in the England squad?

Highlight of the game was the England fans singing "We hate Setanta, we do" :D

its no wonder england are so crap , although a win is a win and thats all that matters , the team needs to jell and if capello keeps changing the team every other game it want happen .
 
Engerrrland - hoof the ball tactic dosn't work, the england players need to learn to pass and move, they didn't seem to be doing this very well.

the manager, who apparently wasn't afraid to drop big names, needs to drop big names. There are better choices for the england team.
 
Personally I thought Walcott was an ok choice for the start, as the first half showed.

But I gave up and didn't watch the second.

Also was shocked to see Bullard didn't make it? What was the point in that then? Shame, I would have liked to see him start, probably more worth of a start than some of the others.

Rooney/Defore upfront? With high balls? Are they STUPID?

I've been having a go with United doing the same to Rooney, he wants the ball to his feet in my opinion.

Horrid to watch, I'm not convinced at all the new boss will last. I see him walking when it doesn't come together for him!
 
Problem England have, is that the players play football for their clubs, and are some of the best in the world at it, but you get them in an england shirt, and they just play kick and rush.

When i say best in the world at it, obviously the likes of Downing, Jenas, James, Johnson, Defoe, Barry and Lescott are not covered by that statement.
 
Do people reckon England will be seeded in the World Cup? Tournaments I've watched within my lifetime:

'94 failed to qualify
'96 semis
'98 2nd round
'00 group stages
'02 quarters
'04 quarters
'06 quarters
'08 failed to qualify

This generation of english players simply aren't as good as the 96/98 generation and even they failed to do anything. But they should qualify, as Ukraine aren't good and they should get the playoff slot.

They should play Walcott in a front 3 with Joe Cole on the left and a good striker up the middle.

not Rooney, when was he good for England? 2004 maybe.

No idea why Beckham still playing.. same old questions for England i guess
 
Rooney set up the second goal ? I'd play rooney but have walcott on his right.
So the croatia game is only on setanta ? what has happened to sky lately they are approaching not worth having status.

Yeah Setanta have exclusive rights to all Englands away qualifers this world cup. The home ones will be on ITV.

The FA cup is on Setanta/ITV as well as part of the same deal with the FA.

I know, they simply shouldnt be there.

You dont need a team of superstars, but you need a team of decent players and they are not decent players.

Johnson isnt even one of the top 20 or so players who can play right back in the league, i include converted midfielders in that as well.
How downing gets picked and Young doesnt, when Young is better at everything than Downing, is a joke.

Sorry, but i cant see the point in Beckham in that 11.

Also will Rio be back for Wednesday?
