... Has made me lose all my resolution settings?

Got the g/f a new tv and with it ordered a vga cable for using the pc on the tv from time to time. Ended up putting the pc nearer the TV than the pc monitor so used the blue vga cable that came with the monitor for the TV and the new VGA cable on the monitor.

Found that the correct res for the TV was found straight away and was very impressed that it did it so quick.

When I went to use the pc I found that the res had set itself to 1024x800 (default is 1400x900) and that the 1400x900 was no longer there.

After playing around a bit I swapped the oringal cable from the TV back into the monitor and found then that the monitor worked perfect and that the tv res couldn't be set to it's native settings...

This then led me to belive that the cable isn't picking up what the res should be and is stopping me from picking the correct native res... why the hell is that?

Any help please post as I am stumped on this one... how does a vga cable (that looks identical to the other vga cable) stop me from having the native res & give me a bunch of random ones!?

Cheers,

Doug.

No one has any ideas?

Has everyone else just bought a vga cable and it works straight away?

Should I send the cable back as faulty...?

Any help much appreciated

Cheers, Doug.

Add the 1440x900 res into the custom resolutions list and try again.

Cheers for replying.

That sounds like it could work but I don't know what the custom resolutions list is...

Just to clarify that this isn't for any game this is just full time sat on windows desktop that this cable takes away the correct res and gives me a load of wrong resoultions. As soon as I change the cable it seems to pick up the native res straight away...

If there is a list I can add 1400x900 to that would be brilliant!

Cheers, Doug.

Cheers for the replies.

It's for my g/f and she only has Intel on board graphics (doesn't game, only uses the pc for web, music and the occasional film)

Because it's on board there is only one output so it is the same.

As I said, if I use the VGA cable that came with the monitor on either the TV or PC monitor it picks up the correct res straight away, as soon as I use the other VGA cable on either the TV or the monitor I lose correct res and get a load of incorrect resolutions to choose from.

Why would a cable do this #1 and #2 is there any way I can make the correct resolution appear when the cable is plugged in?

Cheers again, Doug
