*** Official Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Thread***

You can pretty much guarentee that live will have its many, many hicups.

Well that's like other games then, i just hope it won't be as severe as whats going on today. I had a right nightmare starting WoW on the first day and when i played Lineage2 you had to put a coin to jam your enter key to actually get on as the servers were getting hammered.

I won't even mention the others, although WoW has been the best it still wasn't perfect. I mean the servers were up for ages and when AQ came up the servers were dying, and you end back where you were 5 minutes ago etc and not to mention when TBC opened and the servers died.

That's with a game which was already used to the load after a year of two of being live. It just goes to show that even servers that normally cope during live gameplay can't when theres just to much going on.

Don't get me wrong im not trying to defend GoA or anything, it's just people always seem to jump on the bandwagon, shout and screaming and so forth when infact the grass hasn't always been greener on the otherside.

/edit: I mean 6-7 hours later still no email :p.

heh i didnt know what all the fuss was about - its beta, its expected to be semi buggy, its free what do you expect etc etc - then i just read people who pre-ordered have been promised open beta play from today... oops.

this thread is pretty tame, if you head over to warhammer alliance, the devs are being virtually lynched.

Yup if they are like it now, imagine at launch if it goes ******* up.

I think whats going on at WHA is really unnecessary. If this was Live Launch maybe the reaction would be justified, but it really is knives and pitchforks over there =/ Some people need to get a grip.

Heh, the 130-page thread on the Warhammer Alliance thread is gold. GOA AND Mythic should have realised that things like this CAN make or break a game. MMO players are, albeit somewhat pathetically, fanatical about the smooth running/operation of their game.

However, ALL of this could have been averted had GOA done one of the following two things:

a) Took everybody's advice and opened the account creation pages at least a few days in advance.

b) Instead of bragging about how their servers could easily take the deluge of players (something contradicted from the moment the account creation servers opened this morning), stated clearly that they wanted to stress the servers as much as possible to see how they would cope. That way, at least people would have expected things to go wrong.

It was just so obviously going to happen!

Well that's what happens when your submerged in a gaming world. It's like the die hard WoW players, don't matter if you have a year of no server problems, if the server goes down on the night they have a big raid they cry and scream and say how the service is rubbish etc.

I've been watching tv, playing other games, tidying up while coming back every now and again to see if its up to which it hasn't. It doesn't bother me at all, if it aint done for me tonight it most likely will tomorrow when i get back from work at 6.

more news (hope not duplicated)

We are certainly going to open extra servers at launch and population cap them initially (so the lowbie areas aren't filled to the brim) and then raise the cap to allow more people to get on after people start tiering up.

I wish I could say that there was a simple solution but there isn't. We can do things to try to help the problem but even allowing people to freely transfer between servers won't eliminate the problem totally and then could create another problem itself. Even with a moving pop cap, there is still the chance that people might not be able to get on to a server with a friends if that server is full. We'll just have to see how things play out and react accordingly.

well in all fairness, the BETA is for the GAME. Not the SIGN UP part just because their website is ****
I think its fair to say that. Im not having ago but it is pretty bogus

Only game I've played from launch and has been fine was LoTRO. Didn't have a problem with that.

The thing is, even if this beta doesn't get any better, is it going to stop you buying the game? Even if it's a big pile of steaming poo it's going to be better than AoC.

to be fair people have been asking for the acount centre for months because it was obvious to all with any knowledge about websites that this would be an utter failure.

GOA comunity managers were saying just the other day that it would go smooth as butter and there servers can easily handle the amount of traffic they will get from the number of beta keys that are floating around.

now it comes around and smacks them in the arse what do you expect? people to sit back and take it when people have been asking for GOA to get there heads out of cloud cuckoo land and show they are serious about warhammer after there past failings with DAOC.
maybe if it was the first time they had epic fail all over there hands people would be more calm.

5154 players? closed better would have been much larger than that.

theres 55k pre orders for the CE wanting to play.
probably atleast another 100k SE pre orders and around 50k give away cd keys that imo they shouldnt have gave away until the paying customers were ingame.

I disagree, GOA have a very poor reputation and were saying they deserve another chance and people shouldn't just judge them on DAoC. And then the fall at the first hurdle, people had been telling them for weeks to open the account management up so that people could enter their keys, and they just ignored them.

They even said they consider today to be the launch, and would be providing a proper service from today.

Yes but clearly they had screwed up logistics and underplanned OB launch thus being woefully behind schedule. That is entirely GOAs Fault, however the whole forum turning against them even though they thoroughly expected it isn't going to help any situation. Also the petition to get rid of GOA is just as naive as GOAs planning, they honestly believe that a petition will stand up against what probably is a watertight contract between Mythic and GOA? I doubt it.

Those stating that they've paid for Open Beta honestly need to get their heads out of the clouds just as much as GOA. It may have been included in the package you paid for, however most if not all retailors said the OB dates were subject to change covering any forseeable problems in OB. It's a bonus and as can be seen by the free key giveaway more of marketing tool to attract more numbers to Live Launch.

I am very disappointed with GOA and their planning but is it going to cause me to cancel my pre-order...hell no.
