I'm building a computer for a friend, He's been looking at some of the OCUK prebuilt systems, And he was happy to buy one of those initially.

I'm just wondering if I could build him one cheaper, but get about the same sort of performance out of it.

He's asking for a system that will last a few years, 2/3 years.

Q6600 O/C'd is a must I believe.
4GB RAM+
I hear the ATI graphics cards are where the bang for the buck is at the moment.

Basically, I'm looking for a nice juicy spec, Heavy on the power, light on the cost.

Can you help a fella out?

It will be primarily for gaming.

Budget 600/700.

Your on course dont be pursuaded to spend more than you need

ati 4850 for £120 or nvidia 9800gtx++ are both excellent value (ati is a little more advanced design and engenders a warm glow in that your decsion will be endorsed by lots of reviews)

dont buy sli/crosfire components (unless the facility is free) they just rack up the costs of the psu, mobo etc and cause support issues.

if its a mates pc you dont want it to be on the bleeding edge of reliability

WD or samsung 640gb hdd drives are bang on the best value drive sector at the moment but you can save £10-15 by dropping to 400-500gb drives

PSU should be stone reliable but not more than £50 ish

64 bit vista still has driver issues for some (usually older) devices, 32 bits good enough and less support issues so 2 or 3 gb of memory would be ok

If he wants bling get the LG blu/reay reader/dvd drive for £65- 70 inc software.
