Was great to see Bullard in the team, but to be honest i havent seen much of him on the pitch? Ive only really seen his great goals from highlights.

I know he's a great guy, and possibly will boost the moral of the rest of the team due to his character? but is he really good enough to be in the team?

I don't think we were that bad, if you watch Andorra they had no interest in coming out of their own half, once any one of their players got the ball the rest of the team showed no desire to support him. They may be a bunch of gardeners and plumbers but even they can be difficult to break down if they stick 11 men behind the ball, there was never any chance of us not winning. Our main issue in the first half was not getting our shots on target, we had a few half chances but we just didn't test the keeper.

I hope Capello has learnt once and for all never to put Downing in an England shirt again, that was a truely diabolical performance. None of his deliveries beat the first man and I didn't see him try and take on the defender down the left wing once. Completely useless player.

Never going to happen. Rooney's a forward not an attacking midfielder and even if he was I'd still play Lampard over him.

Edit: And that strike force, LOL. Nearly 80 caps between them and only 10 goals. I don't know why managers that are meant to be world class continue playing these hopeless clowns.

That midfield would get destroyed by Croatia, basically only Barry would be in the centre with Rooney running all over the shop.

We saw Beckham in the middle when he came on against Andorra which may be a hint to how we'll line up on wednesday, I think we might see:

James

Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole

Walcott Beckham Barry Lampard Cole

Rooney

I also really dont see the need for rooney he doesnt really impress me at UTD now adays and certainly doesnt for england!

Problem England have, is that the players play football for their clubs, and are some of the best in the world at it, but you get them in an england shirt, and they just play kick and rush.

When i say best in the world at it, obviously the likes of Downing, Jenas, James, Johnson, Defoe, Barry and Lescott are not covered by that statement.

You see them play well for clubs etc, reason, they have quality arround them, put the average english players in one team, and its shows how crap they are without quality arround them.

Yep. They are good technically, but their creative abilities is very limited. I mean, no one is saying Rio Ferdinand or John terry aren't some of the best defenders in the world. But as soon as you look at the midfield and attack, other than gerrard, there isn't enough quality. Gerrard isn't even a playmaker like Zidane, Riquelme or Deco that england so badly require. Upfront we have Rooney, but he has so much support from midfield with Man Utd, he plays an entirely different role for England which isn't cut out for him.

The problem is, the England managers just keeps trying to find the 11 strongest individual players.
But this misses the point.
England are technically and tactically limited players, who can only play a certain type of football well.
Sadly, our strongest players do not include the important elements of the type of system we need to be playing.
So the only answer is to sacrifice certain very strong individuals, for lesser players who are the correct type.
It is better to have 5 great players, playing ...great, with 6 good players, playing good than to have 11 world beaters playing poorly.
Once a team has been found that is actually balanced and brings out the best of our key players, the next step is to actually have faith in it and give it a chance to improve, for players to get some confidance.
This is the second basic error the managers keep making.
When was the last time the same 11 started two matches in a row? Teams need time.
Personnel wise, the one player I would try and fit into such a new approach would be Michael Carrick.
His passing and intelligence is well suited to international football and at the very least, his club form means he deserves his shot.
Unfortunately, the intense pressure on the team and manager from the press and fans means the likes of cappelo are too scared to even consider such bold steps.
So things wont change, performances wont improve, the players will continue to play like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders, scared of inevitable abuse and the vicious circle will continue indefinitely.

I remember the days when the England players went all out and were not afraid to show some adventure during the game. Now, we dont seem to see any of that. I bring it down to the players being under so much pressure they are now afraid to attack or run with the ball because of the chance of losing and having the back pages calling for their heads.

If the players played like they do in the Premiership or at least get the manager to let them play like that then I can see good things come out of this qualifing stage.

I personaly think its all down to the media.

England simply aren't good enough as a team and are stressful to watch.

I agree that the past manager's tend to pick the strongest indervidual players. I can't see why Jimmy Bullard doesn't get more time, he'll work his arse off fo the team, whereas people like Lampard and/or Gerrard, who never turn it on enough, get in the starting 11 almost everytime. When you watch England you just don't see the heart and enthusiasm they used to show, Euro '96 and a lot of earlier dates, now it's just a case of, 'yeah, I'm playing for my country, it's an honor, bla bla bla', you feel like giving them a kick up the arse and saying, 'it IS an honor you ****, almost ever bloke in this country would love to be what you're doing'. It's a case of too many ego's and not enough heart.

god knows what happens to downing between leaving boro and joining up with england squad. its not even the same player

Perhaps they swap him with someone on the M1, as a Boro supporter I cant fathom it out tbh, He was dire on Saturday and shouldnt get selected for Wednesday on that performance but to say he is rubbish is completely wrong, He plays (and has done for some time) exceptionally well for Middlesbrough but looks like a rabbit caught in headlights when playing for England (maybe its nerves :S)

Saturdays team has no cohesion, they played walcott out of the game and why doesnt someone tell capello that Rooney isnt a striker, hes a link player from midfield to attack.
