But they are going to be on your streets, there is nothing you can do about that.
And I don't think National Service will actually do much good unless it was ruthlessly enforced - look at the "Where there is blame there is a claim" crowd, and you will see most of them reside in that segment of society, the chavvy society.
I would have thought you would just have a high percentage of deserters clogging up prisons to be honest, it would work for a slim amount of the lot though.
Also, are you planning on sticking ALL kids in this? You still seem to think ALL kids are chavvy layabouts - when in fact they are not. You are just going to punish the well behaved kids for the ill behaved with your scheme.
Do you think all kids are chavs?

ALL kids from the age of 16+ should serve 2 years minimum of NS. The army break you down and turn you into men. Thats what we need now, because we have NO control over our teenagers anymore.

How about doing it the other way round? You join the army and then you won't be around the streets to see the kids - problem solved and all it required was a bit of lateral thinking.
Why do we need all children turned into "army style" men? I would say only a percentage of he population do.
An example, KID A works hard, doesn't bother teachers and gets good grades and goes onto excel in further education / get a job.
KID B wastes all time at school, makes it harder for teachers to teach, makes learning hard for KID A - and generally wastes time for all involved.
Why should KID A be sent to NS when he is doing perfectly well in the social world, when KID B is clearly the issue?

Just because hes a good lad at school, doesnt mean he is going to be a upstanding citizen.
"Army style" men are people with respect to others and people around them, there taught to control them selfs in certain situations, there taught manners and many other things.
I imagine it is very much of the situation like when they proposed the drinking age would be upped to 21, and everyone over 21 said "Yeah great idea!! Bloody drunk young'uns!" as they knew they wouldn't be affected...

So just to get this straight - you're suggesting something but you wouldn't be willing to do it yourself? What of the phrase "leading by example"? I believe they are quite fond of such things in most militaries.

I work with a guy out of the army at work.
Five years in low level employment never moved - and to be honest, has the brain, manners, mental capacity and general cognition of a toad.
This is a great broad statement you are making, the army does not do this great "life changing" thing for everyone, as with all people in life, it makes some of them great, some of them no better / worse than when they went in.
How about you just accept the NS is not for everyone.

If i was called, i would go. I wish when i was at school i was give then choice at least.
Most of the people i know who have been and currently serving are polite, hard workers and generally don't hang around benchs or childrens play areas destroying things for "fun"
Then whats your big idea on how to solve the current epidemic? Because education isnt working, fining parents isnt working, arresting them isnt working, what other options do you have left?

Well aren't you lucky - as with everything in life, there is a broad spectrum of people, from the upstanding to the moronic, we can't meet them all.
Well, oddly I do not agree with your total NS plan of sticking them all in - I do agree that it is an option for people proven to be a problem to society, ASBO kids an the like - would scare the bejesus out of me if I would be doing 6 months or a years NS instead of a bit of a slap on the wrist - but this hasn't been proven to change the path of these kids, possibly something to look into but I do not agree with your plan of putting all kids into NS.
I also think that benefits should be severely pulled back from the current methods and tighter constrictions in place for people to get them, to stop them being able to lay-about so much (But this is a conversation for another discussion and another time, and I am going bed now!).

What ever answer i give will be picked apart by the hyenas that inhabit this forum.
But the short version is i have perforated ear drum, once that's repaired the chances are i probably will be.
You're only getting "picked apart" because of the lack of foundation and sense in your argument - just repeating "I don't care I just want them off my streets!" is obviously going to get people laughing at you if you keep repeating it.

don't think NS is the answer, teaching them how to defend themselves and making them fitter and how to use guns, knifes ect,ect probably isn't a very good idea, unless they removed all these and just concentrated on discipline.
