The main character in No Country For Old Men. The fact that he was in pretty much all the scenes up until that point and then the film carried on for 45 minutes after he died was weird.

I didn't think it was resolved one way or the other. You see him lying on the steps having been shot with Ms Miller cradling him in her arms and that is about the last thing shown - I'd have thought you were free to assume life or death as you chose.
On a similar note I watched In Bruges last night, really good film with bleakly black comedy but you see Colin Farrell shot at the end and don't know for certain whether he lives or dies.
