Spec me a strategy game

I'm currently internetless at my new house and will be until the end of the month atleast. So, until I get the internet back and can play TF2 again, I need a new game.

I used to play loads of strategy games but the last one I played was Supreme Commander which was alright, but not brilliant.

Can anyone recommend a decent strategy game, particularly something which involves building bases etc.

I've considered Spore, but dunno what else there is on the market atm.

COH - nothing to touch it for endlessly devising and refining new stategies - plus you can play skirmish mode with the AI until you get online again.

Yep, this is the game I would wholeheartedly recommend.

I feel like I missed something with SC as so many people say they loved it but I just didn't find it that good.

First two which come to mind are those mentioned above - when you have mates to play online with then SC/FA and CoH/OF are really two of the best RTS games going!

Make sure you get the Gold edition, includes COH and COHOF.

Excuse someone who lives in the dark ages, what is coh? Havent seen any decent games that are actually fun to play for years.

You'll get a bit of a shock when you finally get online and spend half a day waiting for 2 years worth of patches to download!

Some really good tutorials/tips, etc. over on gamereplays.org btw.

Pick up Dawn of War for next to nothing. Same company that did CoH. Less Germans, more unstoppable chaos demons

I couldn't find anywhere with the Gold Edition in stock so I just got the COH for £8.50 delivered instead.

No not really, unless we've both missed it. I still have never gotten past the first mission of any campaign, because after a while it's just not interesting. I know the real strength of these type of games is multiplayer, but still. I've never not played the campaign of a rts game before.

You can find Universe at War for well under a fiver in some places. Yes, I know it is not great but for a cheap thrill it can't be beaten (and it is not a bad game!)
