Afternoon chaps.

I guess i'm opening myself up to some OcUK style abuse by doing this, but i've just started a new blog as I'm about to embark upon a new venture this evening.

Please take a look at http://slimmersean.wordpress.com and feel free to comment (tastefully! :p)

I know some on here will have strong opinions etc but some of you might find it interesting, helpful or something equally positive.

Thanks :)

Sean

First let me say what you're doing is great.

secondly, could you explain what this LighterLife diet is?

It's a VLCD (Very Low Calorie-Diet) for people with a BMI of 29 or over (Obese upwards essentially)

I have to have the all clear from the doc and a 28 day rolling checkup of blood pressure etc but essentially I get weekly counselling and have four foodpacks a day, plus 4 litres of water. Food is removed from my diet completely whilst the packs give me the nutrients vitamins etc I need.

Once I'm at my target weight, the counselling moves on to cover management, to help me start introducing a balanced diet and looks a trigger foods and foods which affect my weight the most.

Lots of info on the net about it www.lighterlife.com and www.lighterlifecommunity.com

I can't wait to get started :)

Got pics?
BMI doesnt tell the whole story, whats your bodyfat %?
My BMI is 41, be damned if I would be looking to get down to 12 stone!

Four Foodpacks a day provide:
  • An average of 530 Calories.
  • An average of 50g protein, 14g fat, 50g carbohydrate.
  • At least 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
that is extreme!

Putting pics on the blog this evening, I'm not sure of my bodyfat but I seem to remember a figure in the mid 30s last time I went to check at docs about 18 months ago.

I'm not round, but i'm no rugby player either, i definitely need to shift the weight!

LighterLife sounds all well and good, but have you considered eating a balanced diet and exercising? Eating ~500 cals a day can't be good for you.

Considered it yes, managed it, no. That's why i'm looking to this style of changing my life.

Eating 500 calories a day short term has to be better than a lifetime of being severly obese.

Feel free to stick some up here. You will find that a lot of people will be supportive of you (but not post on the blog).
There was a huge thread here about people losing weight where there was lots of support :]

You do realise that at 30%BF, your complete lean weight is 13.5 stone? Other than fat, are you looking to lose muscle mass as well?
Personally I think your target is a bit unrealistic, unless my calcs are wrong!

Its not too far from being like the vdiet, just much more extreme tbh.

Like I said, I'm plucking that figure out of my distant memory, it could well be that I'm just thinking of the BMI again :p

I might put pics here, but i'm less inclined too, knowing full well of the photoshop frenzy that would occur :D

My only issue with these kind of "diets" is that they are temporary. You mentioned that you weren't able to stick to a healthy balanced diet before - once this is finished what makes you think you'll be able to do it then?

I'll keep brief because I'm happy in the knowledge that it'll work, but essentially by removing food entirely and then having counselling to change my approach to food i'm throwing all bad habits out the window and starting again.

I am in the same situation as you, although not as fat.

I have dropped around 6kg in a month, I used to be 97 and am now down to the 91 mark, did this by not snacking and not eating bad foods.

I still have a long way to go, I am aiming for at least 75kgs.

Are these foodpacks expensive?

with only 130kcal per pack, i would bloody hope not!

It's £66 a week, including the two hour counselling session. I was well put off by the price at first, but i've found a lot of comfort from the community forums that it actually works, and when i work out how much i spend on food and drink anyway, i'll probably be better off by quite a bit...

Good luck with that mate, just started cutting down on food and doing exercise myself and so far so good.

Think that diet sounds too extreme for me, maybe I'm wrong but a healthy diet and some hard exercise is what I always thought is the best way to lose fat and improve health. Lost 1.5kg last week and if I keep going at a similar rate hopefully before the end of the year I'll have reached my target of losing 15kg.

Lost that weight just with diet or doing some exercise as well?
