Brake Pads?

Hi,

Need to choose some new brake pads, and I think this time it'll be EBC Redstuff.

The OEM ones on there at the moment are hopeless, the dust is incredible!

Do they sound okay or are there any better options around for my 530?
 
No help but you've reminded me I need to sell the spare pad set I never got round to using so thanks!
 
Do you need to go for the Redstuffs? will the Greens not be sufficient? both can be abused like a ginger step child without many issues. I know you have to really REALLY abuse the Greenstuffs to see any form of fade at all...and even then it's minor.

Had Greens the previous set, no issues with them but Reds are hardly any more expensive so why not? :)

Because the performance characteristics are different - pick the ones which suit your usage.

I spent ages trying to pick non OEM brake pads. For every glowing comment for a pad I found a negative one to confuse the issue. Went OEM in the end.
 
And as I've said, I'm never buying OEM pads again due to the incredible amount of dust they produce :p

Redstuff are still fine for road usage as far as I can see.
 
Not a fan of redstuff pads at all, not very good when cold (which is when a lot of the time you'd want them to work i.e. just setting off or motorway driving), I was able to overlook this as when warmed up they were excellent and gave off very little dust.
This was until last month when they had completely worn down after just 7000 miles, with similar driving my OEM Renault (made by Ferodo) pads lasted around 22000 miles, more expensive but not by much and last an awful lot longer! So went back to the OEM pads and think I will stick with them too, wasn't anything wrong with them as such, just fancied a cheaper alternative which for me turned out to be a false economy.
 
I can't comment on the Redstuff pads, but some pads will need more heat in them to work effectively. I had some Mintex pads on my previous car that needed warming up before they felt even as good as the OE ones.

I'd stick with Greenstuff, they're fine for road use.
 
anyone that ive spoken to who has tried both red and yellows have said that ebc yellow walk over the reds, both for cold response and the abuse they can withstand when pushed hard

I've had a full set of discs and pads (Mintex) before and i have to say they were very good :)

They are, generally, a good brand. But Mintex do various different compounds and the particular ones I had needed heat. Once warmed up, they stopped better than OE though ;)

Yellows are recommended for track use/lunatics though.
 
yup, and luckily they have very good cold response too. about the same as the pagid fast roads that they replaced on my car. ive had them over a year, ive not had them fading once, even after serious road use and the ring too. one of the best buys ive made
 
I'd never use Green Stuff, heard a lot of bad stories about them. A friend had them on his car which i took for a drive, they didnt feel any better than stock, and seemed to require more pressure than a "performance pad" should. Other issues include a lot of brake dust, dont last long and fade badly if abused to too long. Ive also read that they're supposed to have improved the materials so not sure exactly what they've done to improve.

Ive got some redstuff on my car at the moment and rate them highly, i was very sceptical with ebc stuff in general, but they have really impressed me. They feel progressive and reassuring. Ive never got them close to fading and dont think i could get them too even on a track day. They seem to bite very very well from cold (usually taking me by suprise) and then to get the best out of them, you need to get the temp up. Only disadvantage ive read is that they tend to eat disks. Ive seen no evidence of that yet so far and dust wise, they are far from the worst ive had. Mintex were extremely dusty!
