The father of a little girl sucked 150ft (46m) along an underground drain has told how she had stopped breathing when he pulled her from the River Wear.

Wow talk about lucky and seems the parents were pretty clued up as to what was happening and prevented the situation from having an even worse outcome. God knows what I would have done if my daughter had just disappeared down a puddle like that.

Although looks like the family dog wasn't so lucky :(

Just heard about this on the news, pretty mental.

Fair play to the dad for his quick thinking.

Hard to believe something like that just open with kids playing around it

Wow. Many people probably wouldn't have thought of checking the river. What an absolute hero though!

Definitely a quality dad she's got there :)

Three minutes? Pfft, if only the emergency services managed that around here...

Good on the bloke though, he knew what he was doing.

Very lucky but who designed a death trap like that into a public park

It would have been a normal run of the mill manhole cover. The volume of water would have overcharged the drain and blown the cover.

Nobody designed a death trap it was just unlucky.

Bloody good skills from the Dad though :D

I was on the phone to a friend yesterday who's house overlooks Chester Le Street park, she mentioned that there were a load of police vans and ambulances in the park. I couldn't believe it when I read this on BBC news earlier on:eek:
