Friend wants me to spec him a system for £300.

So far i have in mind something like

E2180
8800GT
2Gig GeiL
160GB HDD
Seasonic 430W PSU

Unsure on case/mobo atm.

He mainly wants something to burn cd's (boasts about how fast his mates PC can burn cd's)

Anyone fancy a go?

would he want to be able to play games?

All he told me was his daughter can play games when she is around, i dount think shes very old, so woudn't need some uber card really.

I put in an 8800GT as they seems to be coming down in price big time latley. Although something smaller/cheaper should do fine.

Ill get more info out of him this week about monitor size and games he would be playing.

I'm finding it hard to keep the budget below £300 really

All i need it case/psu/mobo/ram/grfx/cpu/ cd coppier

Abit IP43 Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - (£70.49)
LG GH20NS15 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (£15.26)
Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU (£82.24)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail (£49.34)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB22GB6400C4DC) £24.99
Maxtor Diamondmax 20 160GB SATA-II 2MB Cache - OEM (STM3160215AS) (£28.19)

Total : £275

Thats what i have so far. This leaves £25 graphics card :(

That's a decent spec imo Camalot, all that is needed is a cheapie gfx card imo :) It may go £10 over budget but that's only a three pints down the pub ;)

Thanks, ill try look out on MM for some second hand bits and bobs to bring the price down. He said he wants a really good one, but given the price, i think thats the best i can do without buying second hand. Plus thats with free postage to :o

What are the things that contribute towards the "burning" speeds of music onto a CD. Obviously the actual drive and media is the biggest, would having it SATA instead of IDE make it faster?

He was going on about how his mate puts windows 97 onto his pc to make the cd's burn faster because it uses up less space. I think thats a load of tosh though .
