not that I'm a huge tennis fan but...

Mmm, a post about English football in 'Sports Arena' summed up my feelings; the media pile too much pressure on us to perform etc. Most people are too afraid to feel proud of their country because of p/c.

thats the biggest steaming pile of bull dung I've read all week.

Oh come on, do you read the sports paper? England lose = OMG FAILURE SACK EVERYONE...England win a game = ENGLAND WIN AMAZINGLY, RIO TO BE KNIGHTED and so on.

It's been happening for years...football is the worse. Tennis has not been helped by Henman...i mean, 'Henman Hill', how many times has that been mentioned? Andy being the amazing guy ready to storm the world (That was reported 1-2 years ago).

And i'm right about political correctness...being afraid to show our love for our country in case we offend someone.

Sorry, hang on a sec, what the heck has political correctness got to do with us brits sucking at tennis for years? I'm 100% with you about all this rubbish about making police dogs wear boots, but I don't see the link to tennis?

Not trying to cause an arguement but i mean in general about people have pride for the country and being able to express this.

I've started ranting about something half related...being able to have pride for our country and think 'Yeah, we're not a bad place, we're not doing that badly' and so on. Just thinking that our achievements aren't that bad compared to everyone else.

It annoys me that the media constantly pile pressure on sportsmen to perform...do you remember the fuss about the 13 year old diver for the Olympics? It was always in the papers...Henman failing again, Henman not doing this and that's all we ever heard. If it was something good, it was always in relation to the bad things and this was everyday...especially during Wimbledon.

Bleh, i think i need to go to bed. :o

Edit: Just seen something, we don't suck that much...Henman was in the top 20 of the entire WORLD...our flaw is always relying on the same stars and not helping the youngsters and building them up. I mentioned the same sort of thing for football...always relying on the same players over and over and if one gets injured, everyone falls apart. :(

I'm not British i'm Scottish...blah blah blah...

Then look at how he chooses to ignore the crowd at some points but then suddenly wants them to get behind him when he's winning.... Well hang on a minute sunshine, you didn't want anything to do with us a minute ago.

He has just always come across as a bit of a **** who has far too much self-confidence. Hopefully this has taken him down a peg or two.

Really starting to think that people are choosing to make stuff up,* just because ages ago he said he'd support Scotland in the football not England. The country representations are different in different sports...sheesh, get over it.

*moody, rudeness and other negative character traits.

I'd say he's probably in line with most other tennis players, it's just that of course more of our attention is on him. Doesn't help that Federer is such a smiley gentleman whom Murray is probably compared to.

Was he not the one that actualy said he supported any team that England were playing? And seen in other countries favours when the said country were playing England?

Beat me to it...he knows he's British...the flag he wears/is shown with/etc. is the Union Jack and he's blatantly proud of it...plus the majority of his fans are Englsh. :)

I think what happened was a reporter asked him if he would be supporting Scotland in the world cup - knowing full well that they hadn't qualified. And he replied in jest something along the lines of "I'll be supporting anyone but England".
