Samsung Omnia I900 owners thread.

VODAFONE Omnia questions pre purchase

1 - Is the Voda software awful and does it need to be removed? If so how hard is that to do?

2- What's it like texting on the phone?

3 - How is browsing compared to an iPhone?

4 - Whats the Mp3 playback and layout like?

5 - Can i drag and drop full DIVX films (750mb) without lessening the resolution, and will it play smoothly?

6 - Is reception generally good, or have you found it worse than previous phones?

Thank you.!!

1 - Yes it seems slow at times.

2 - Very hard to get used to, but once used to it, you can text one handed and faster than a phone with buttons! (Well i can anyway)

3 - Browsing is a joy, can't compare it to an Iphone as i haven't used one, but i doubt its any better tbh!

4 - Layout seems basic, playback seems fine to me.

5 - DivX files play nicely on mine.

6 - Haven't had any problems reception wise! Seems fine.

What I like about the iPhone is the scaling of large webpages. How well does IE deal with it? It's not great on the last PDA I used :(

Burnsy

The Omnia has Opera, when a page loads its all in full screen. But a quick double tap of a certain section and it zooms in. The words all auto wrap to fill the screen. It's very nice.

So comparable to the iPhone? Or a good try but not as good?

I've not seen the iPhone's one in action, but Opera mobile on the Omina is fantastic. The page renders, you 'double-tap' the screen to zoom in, drag to pan around, that's all there is to it really.

You should demo one in the shops.

I dont know how the iphone works so cant compare the two.
This suits me fine though. Typing on here is very easy now im used to it.

is there any obvious reason why i cant watch you tube videos using wifi ? in both iexplorer and opera it always trys to connect to GPRS once i get to the actual streaming of the video. uses wifi fine when searching etc though :/

Yea i've noticed that, its annoying :o

its asthough you tube are in cahoots with phone people so everyone gets charged to use you tube lol

other video streaming mobile sites are fine with the wifi :S

finally getting used to texting with it a bit more now too. when i first tried yesterday i was considering getting rid of it i was so bad !

Hi guys. This is day 4 of Omnia fun for me. Settling in nicely now, used to the basic controls and touch screen etc. Now I have a few questions, which I'm sure others would be interested in having answered too;

1) Can the SPB 'Now' screen be set to the today page? - Camalot asked this earlier - I agree, I need the 'Now' page to be my defualt today page - this must be possible, does anyone know how?

2) Is it possible to lock the phone from the SPB 'Now' screen - I currently have my 'call end' key mapped to disconnect data calls instead of phone lock. Is there a way to lock the phone quickly from within the SPB interface??

3) Has anyone figured out how to get the "X" button to actualy close applications properly yet. I am aware this is possible through a menu settin on the HTC phones, but has anyone figured this out for the Omnia yet?

Appreciate your efforts guys :D

1/ I couldn't figure this out - But i have the bottom right touch key set to "home". So it's only 1 click away.

2/ Hold the bottom right hard key in for 3 seconds.

Do all networks add VAT onto the bill? My £35 a month contract is actually £41+ after VAT has been added, what the .......

@ 1/ - Do you know how to change what the bottom right touch key is set to? When I originally installed SpB it changed to 'Spb home' - but since I've installed a theme, it has returned to 'live'. Can I change this manually??

@ 2/ - As I said - I mapped my call-end button to disconnect data calls instead of locking the phone so I cannot do this.

-In regards to your tariff. If your on a £35 a month plan, that is including VAT, so your price before VAT should be around £29.79. I think vodafone discount about £5/6 a month for the unlimited web surfing thing, so it could be correct. You may want to call 191 from your phone. Press option 1 to go through the accounts questions, then option 4 for to speak to a customer service person.
