........or is IT at first/second line really not taxing?

I love IT but i'm finding it to be incredibly boring:(

Is IT in something like the Navy / RAF more fun?

I don't think it is you, I personally would never go into IT it seems boring as hell. Like watching paint dry.

I do like my job, I like helping people and many people rely on their PC's too much so get in a flap when they break.

It's just, well, same old formatting HDD's, removing viruses etc :(

What do you mean when you say IT? - anything to do with computers? The IT sector is very diverse and varied.

IT support 1st and 2nd line is boring, why would you think its going to be taxing?
Anything remotely interesting or difficult is handed off to people in other departments.

you mean IT support? IT support is generally boring. But IT covers a huge area - I mean personally I enjoy 3D Modelling or web design or making games in flash/C++ Its what you do and how you make it "fun" end of the day.

how many other areas in IT have first and 2nd line, other than support departments? i qould have thought support would be the only place?

or do you know something different codec?

I mean pretty much anything to do with computers. I can't stand the thought of looking at a screen all day messing around with servers. Computers are boring, I use them to check my email, read the latest news and word processing.

I didn't like working in IT. Having computing as a hobby is fine but when you start to test out your home computing theories on corporate LANs, then you know it's time to get out. I was forever mucking up the work in our CAD department by tinkering with Windows NT. LOL.

Well that is quite opinionated, there are 1001 interesting careers that take place in the IT sector, they just don't seem to fill your criteria for an "interesting" job.

I love IT and techy things but it's just same old same old.

Looking at IT in the RAF,it doesn't seem to pay well.

Being an IT tech/in IT Services doesn't pay all that well anywhere.

I'm currently on a placement job and I'm on £14.5k, people that have finished uni and are working the same job are also on £14.5k. Once I've finished uni, I couldn't be on this amount, it just doesn't seem right.

Having said that, I know of a job closer to where I'm living, that is £20k-£25k for the same thing, which obviously I've applied to. :)

I keep hearing of people who have degree's working in IT for under £20k.

Is it a myth that people leave uni and find highly paid jobs or something?

My colleague is 24, has a degree in Computer Science yet is on the same wage as me.

Generally people don't come out of Uni into mega paid jobs. Graduates usually start on £20-£25k. Sometimes people get lucky. I quit uni in the 2nd year, and went straight into an IT job on £25k. After a year I'm on £33k.

There are a lot of people doing computer related degrees and not enough jobs.

If you don't mind me asking, what IT job do you do?

from what i have hurd, well my girlfriend brother, he earns 30k a year and he like 23, and did not go to uni, just did a ciso networking course and say it is a lot about expeice, and who you know, he got on by some one recomending him, beucase they spoted that he was talented

Depends what you're doing in IT, there's such a large degree of different jobs. 1st line/2nd line would probably grate on me quite quickly, but I think it's quite worthy experience to have.
