iRacing release price details

I just saw the subscriptions price - ouch!

Is there like a months trial or something I can get somewhere?

It's just that I like the sound of this, but am not that big into racing games/sims that I am sure I would spend £11 a month...

Theres no free trial/demo for this, its sub or nothing...but you can always sub for the 1 month and see if you like it...its what i did, and im hooked like a kipper.

KnightStalker, I'd definately say turn off "Higher detail in mirrors" and 2-Pass shadows, shouldn't need to set AA any lower (although I run with shadows completely off and the same AA settings to get a better framerate), I don't even notice the difference with the mirrors and shadows I can live without really...

ffallic, I'd definately sub for 1 month, it's a mere £11 and you can see if you like it, if you don't then cancel the subscription and it's all good :)

Might just do that. Though I find it hard to bring myself to pay a monthly subscription for a game...

Maybe when it gets cold again - not that the weather is great now :(

It's a bit annoying, but not *that* expensive per month if you buy the 12 month package, and it is an on-going development, but yeah, price isn't one of it's plus points :p

Cool skill, ill give that a try later today, and see if i can have decent race at LS...i cant believe i was just hitting the 1:03's at LRP and it changes lol, crazy stuff.

Oh and i much prefer LRP than LS, LRP is a much more flowing track, where as LS, you have to be pin point accurate all the time, or your SR is going to take a big dive very quickly.

Maybe knock the AA down to x2?

I run x2 AA at 1920x1600, everything on bar high mirror, this is with a [email protected] and a 4870. I get slight stutter with a large pack on screen but its fine otherwise.

Eeeep!
Boy did I dodge a bullet there.
I so nearly bought a 4870, after so nearly believing all the ATI-entologists on these hallowed fora that the card was an AA demon, particularly at "high settings" (which under torture, most of them admit is 4x or even the really extreme 8x).

2x on the 4870 vs 16Qx on the GTX280.

I'd have shot someone if I'd bought one and found that out.

(I am an AA addict I'm afraid).

Yeah, I prefer LRP as well, there's also more corners in an LRP solstice race than at LS, eg easier to gain lots of SR (or easier to lose lots at LS),

But I did eventually come to like LS a fair bit, quite tricky in places but still quite nice (disliked it a fair bit at first)

Sounds like he's running 2-Pass shadows (from the 'everything on bar high mirrors' comment), which hits the framerate by quite a massive margin,

I would expect the GTX280 to be better than the 4870 though, it costs ~£75 for starters, more mem bandwidth (quite useful at high res + AA :p) and more shader power :p

Is anyone else getting tempted by triple monitors for this game? Keep reading about it on the forums, would definately need a better graphics card to run the silly res needed for 3 screens though...

Yeah all shadows on...

So ****** off. was leading at laguna, well in the lead. bout 75% race distance gone. Next I see a message at the top saying "server disconnecting from US" next thing I'm kicked and only given the option to quit. Sitting here now and the website says I'm still connected to the server but no way to join. would have been my first win at laguna to.

Unlucky Bigsy, I think I was catching you ever so slowly, was kinda looking forward to possibly getting close enough to try a few moves in the last couple of laps, ah well :p

nice second SKILL :-)

Think I could have maybe held the gap over you till the end (I was pacing myself see ;-p) until that tim broadbent pulled a crazy move on me, I did me best to reel you in but me rear left wheel was shot and it was a job to keep it on the road going round left handers.

Still we both placed decently, gotta say I suspected the worst when I saw us both grid on the second row together :D

heh, me too, I hate being on the outside of that first corner as well, I either ending losing 1 or 2 places, or causing a lovely big accident :p

Also managed my quickest ever exit out of the corner before the Corkscrew, as soon as I hit the apex and floored it I was at just under 7k, was shocked as I thought I'd screwed up the corner :p

Had a nice Skippy race before that as well, not overly productive placing wise due to a couple of spins, but improved my lap time round VIR South by 0.5s ish, mainly in the last and first corners :)

Pity I can't seem to consistantly do the 1:49's round laguna anymore, just about got there at the end of the last laguna week and now it's gone again :p

Well turning off all shadows sorted my problem for now, left the mirrors on full...although i can safley say i hate LS, ive gone from being 3.89 down to 3.43 in 2 races, yes 2. I so prefer LRP, i think the thing that gets me, is the off-track limits.
Under real racing you could cut some of the corners a lot finer than IRacing allows, which always catches me out, then for the next corner im too cautious and spin out, resulting in more points knocked off...damn thing.

Oh and TrackIR is just something i cant live without in this, makes using the real mirrors much more involving.

Christ when I race for real I use all of the curb and then some!

It took me quite some time to get used to iRacing punishing me for ... erm, racing.

Silverstone is a case in point, in real life they don't cone off the 'spare' piece of inside tarmac just after the pit entry, I cut that so I'm tucked in to the pit wall all the way until the start line (well nearly), in iRacing that gets me a black flag! Bit annoying.

Yeah some of the 'Off Track' bits are a bit harsh, but then they're the same for everyone at least. I've found most of them have a fair bit of leeway on the racing line it just tends to get me more if i've gone partially over the curb and can't quite get it back on track quickly enough,

But then others are very lenient, on the exit of the corkscrew you can put your left wheels onto the kerbing on the inside of the corner (eg 90% of the car is off the track) without incurring a penalty...
