1) Driver install went black screen, waited must've been 5 mins, ended up hitting reset
2) According to GPU-Z my "GPU TEMP: MEMIO" is 100C!! :(
3) GPU-Z reports my mem clock at 500mhz :(

I'm trying to find out how to increase the fan speed, but all people keep saying is "use rivatuner". That's all well and good, but details? Google brings up some overly complicated guide, all I wanna do is jump into some games and enjoy it...

ouch - that temp is way too high. could be an RMA tbh. I have a Sapphire and no problem. Card runs high one core at 50c and other 77c idle according to lates GPU-z. Don't care if that is high that is Ati problem as far as i am concerned, if it melts -> then immediate RMA.

my mem is 900 on one and 500 on the other core. I too can't be bothered with riva headache so leaving at defaults. Don't fix it if it ain't broken ;) I would also be interested in a noob step by step Riva guide.

Anyway I have seen significant improvement in games and no black screens. not sure what the problem could be, but does your card have enough power?

PS - could be a good idea to put system specs in your sig

500 clock is 2d desktop speed. It automatically rises to the correct speed when you start a game up. Its like a power saving feature. You can do the xml profile mod to make a couple of fan speed profiles, one for desktop one for gaming is what I've done. There is a link around here somewhere.

1: in the box it states that on vista it WILL blackscreen with the drivers on the disk and that you have to reboot a few mins after blackscreening and that the drviers will be installed, (new drviers have fixed this).

2: download the latest gpu-z, then check both cores, one will be hotter because its further from the fan.

3: it will report one at 500/500 and one core at full speed, no idea why but it shows one core in 2d mode and one in 3dmode but dont worry when in game they go up to 750/900

what you can do is edit your profiles like iv done and made the 2d clock (when the card is on desktop not in use) and made both cores and memory 300/400 core and memory 1, and 300/400 core and memory 2, and it idles at a nice 37c core1, 38c core 2(core 2 further from the fan)

and in game they go up to 800/950, and 800/950.

hope this helps

read this to change the fan speed and how to underclock the card in 2dmode when idle etc:

edit: allso for 100% true gpu temp readings download AMD GPU Clock Tool:

What do you mean by "in the box"? Don't recall seeing that mentioned on the packaging or during the installer... I used the latest ccc+driver package from amd.com btw.

Cheers for the tips :)

I got a little label saying that the vista drivers on the disk will cause a black screen.
