i have a perfectly good 19" widscreen hannsg monitor , and would like to know if i sell it would the 28 inch hanns g be worth it for gaming etc ? and if i want to run the monitor at a lower than max res , to get better games performance would it still look ok on the 28 inch screen?

Running any LCD lower than its native res looks awful imo. That hazro monitor is 1920x1200 is it not? If so then your 4870 will be able to drive that at decent detail settings.

Tbh the hannsg 28" on ocuk doesnt seem very good at all when compared to 24" monitors of the same price. Sure its 28" but it seems very cheap and not very feature-rich.

Compared to the 24inch monitors in its price range it is good. Considering the poor reviews the samsung for the same price got

Wrong, the Hanns-G 28inch is a very good monitor for the price, I cannot fault this monitor at all. Viewing angles very good, I'm a heavy gamer too and I can not notice any issues with this monitor.

For the same price you won't find a 24" I would have gone to over £300 to get a really nice 24" and at the end of the day half the stuff they do you will never notice

not for me it isnt. i wouldnt have chosen an MVA over a TN if that were the case. you can not deny that VA/IPS panels are simply better. the choice here comes down to a larger inferior panel or a smaller superior one.

no brainer for me.

It's a TN. TN vewing angles suck, always, and the problems get worse as the screen size goes up. Someone who's looking above all for a big, cheap screen might well be very happy with the Hanns-G. But it is not a good monitor, not by any stretch of the imagination - I suspect it gets kind words from people who are using it more as a kind of ghetto TV than a monitor.

But even then it's a poor choice because for the cost of the 28" Hanns-G you can get a proper 32" TV that won't be cursed with a TN panel.

while i do think the resolution of a typical 32" tv would be too low, i cant see how 1366x768 is 'pracially impossible to use'. the dot pitch of a 1920x1200 28" screen is lower than a 22" 1680x1050 as well.

Not much real estate for work is there? Any work would be pretty annoying, especially coding or photoshop. I know i would definitely find it a hindrance.

I think for the purists and their bionic eyes its not a good choice. For everyone else who has had the lowly TN panel monitors in the past its a great choice.

Unless you are one of those people that watches TV or games from the other room then yes the viewing angle won't be good :)

see, now thats a strange attitude to take.

so you know, i went from a 22" tn panel to a 24" MVA. the difference is actually staggering. it still isnt as good as my sony lcd tv, no. but thats a cream of the crop s-ips panel so you would expect that. but make no mistake, a decent mva will leave a tn behind in everything other than response times, and tbh they are so low now anyway that it isnt an issue. that makes this statement:
For everyone else who has had the lowly TN panel monitors in the past its a great choice.

completely incorrect. if anybody says you wouldnt see the difference they you are either lying or you havent seen anything better.

And have an resolution so low practical use is impossible and the dot pitch is hilarious.
If you read my post carefully I was referring to people using the Hanns-G as a kind of TV - basically meaning a mix of TV, videos, FPS games, etc, with 'monitor-type' work less of a concern. For that sort of use the resolution of a 32" TV is fine, it's even a bit of a bonus as it doesn't need such a powerful gfx card to produced smooth frame rates in games.

You don't need to have bionic eyes to see how much better VA or IPS is over TN, you just need to not be blind. It's pretty damn obvious. I've taken my VA Yurakus to LAN parties a few times and had loads of comments from people (who are invariably using TNs) about how fantastic their picture quality is. The local vendor where I bought my Yurakus has an entire wall covered with LCD TVs and monitors. It's fun to take friends/family monitor shopping there because the difference between TN and VA/IPS is glaringly apparent as soon as you walk in the door. The TN's washed out, ever-changing colours make them look like cheap knock-offs of the VA and IPS screens.

With a big TN panel you just can't win. Sit far away and anywhere other than dead centre the picture washes out. Sit close up and the extremities of the screen are at an angle to your eyes so you get all the normal TN colour problems.

You are simply letting "perfect" be the enemy of good enough. If TN monitor panels were as bad as you'd like to have us believe they simply wouldn't sell. The public vote with their wallets and for large numbers of them TNs _are_ good enough.

yes they would, because they are cheaper/. cheaper sells - there is a pricepoint with anything you could buy that 99% of people would be happy with making a sacrifice somewhere. .....and nobody said VA's or ips panels were perfect either, they are FAR from perfect lol.
