Quick one gents..

My next company car is due in about 5 months and im doing my window shopping as it'll likely need ordered in 2 or 3 months.

Various cars are on the list, VW's, Fords, Mazda, BMW, Merc, Nissan, Toyota etc etc.

Looking at the list ive come to two distinct models which are reasonably equal, and im looking for a bit of advice from anyway who has driven/been in/looked at both.

Two cars are:

Mondeo 2.2 TDCi Titanium X
Mazda 6 2.0d Sport

Now the specs of equipment dont have much between them, but the big one for me is the 2.2 in the mondeo. In saying that the Mazda looks better for a top'ish model whereas the mondeo looks like any other mondeo.

Another option is to save £50 a month and go for a 2.0 TDCi Titanium or a 2.0d Mazda 6 TS2 which is surprisingly well specced.

Opinions... :confused:

(BMW wise its only the 1 series on the list)

Hard to find good photos, but you get the idea

I drove a 123d and wasnt impressed...

It was my top choice for a long time till we had one as a courtesy car and it just didnt feel that great. I didnt feel it being much different to a 120d..

That was a hatch though

the new 6 got very good reviews

id test drive both and see which you prefer. But the titanium X has some great kit. The 6 would have to really pull something out of the bag to get my vote.

See, i thought the titanium x was well kitted out as well...

Then seen that the 6 Sport has about the same spec, leather bi-xenons etc etc

The 2.2 TDCi is the tempting issue, with the good looks of the sport against it... the troubles! I dont normally like the 6, it seems tacky to me on the normal models, but the sport seems right in some colours.

The passat is on the list too :)

Other wildcard is the new insignia 160bhp cdti... it should be out by the time I get it

Don't think you can go wrong with either car. It's down to personal preferences, financing and tax really.

The diesel engines in the old Mazda 6 did have some reliability problems though - not sure if they've sorted that out with the new model but presumably you won't be keeping the car long enough to run into any problems outside the warranty period.

The old 6 had a really comfortable driver's seat / seating position - you could drive 300 miles in one go with absolutely no back ache or stiffness at all. The new 6 is presumably similar, since its based on a development of the previous 6 platform. No experience of the seats / seating position in the new Mondeo though.

Also, the Mondeo is a HUGE car, so make sure you can live with the size, particularly if you park in a lot of muti-storey carparks or spend a lot of time weaving around town.

Dad has a mazda 6 2l Diesel TS2.

He hates it. :p

The engine is too agricultural compared to his BMW 3 series 2l diesel.

Cruise at around 80 and the mpg goes quite a bit down compared to going at 70.
Bimmer was actually very good at fuel economy.
Got around 60mpg (trip computer dont know how accurate they are) on very long distances at 70. While the mazda isn't that great 48mpg at 80 odd, 53mpg at 70.

The interior is very nice, but the voice activated controls fail. The the bluetooth handfree system suck. Can bearly him when hes driving as the mic is too far away.

Seats are comfy etc.
Looks are very nice, wheels are a pian to clean but yer. :p

Its a hard choice as both are well specced, I noticed you havent actually said Titanium X SPORT, just Titanium X. Above the Titanium the X includes

* Halogen Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) with static cornering lamps
* 'Ford Power' starter button
* Alcantara/leather seat trim
* Variable heated front seats
* Rear seat centre armrest with cup holders and stowage
* Front and rear park assist
* 18" Y-spoke alloys
* Passenger manual seat height adjust

I've driven the Titanium X and it's brilliant, inside the cabin it feels (and is!) MASSIVE, however have heard great things of the Mazda 6 Sport. If I didnt have the discount I would definitely choose the Mazda 6 Sport, I think it looks a lot better.

A really modern car for not that much money, total bargain IMO.

You can chip it too, shame it's got so much more to lose.

Opps forgot to say that was his old comapny car. (e46 model)

Why didn't he take the car allowance instead of the 6 and keep the BMW?

Would have made more sense financially as well as allowing him to drive a car which he seems to think is more enjoyable.
