Lance Armstrong will come out of retirement next year to compete in five road races with the Astana team, according to sources familiar with the developing situation.

Armstrong, who turns 37 this month, will compete in the Amgen Tour of California, Paris-Nice, the Tour de Georgia, the Dauphine-Libere and the Tour de France — and will race for no salary or bonuses, the sources, who asked to remain anonymous, told VeloNews.

This would be awesome but I do worry about his legendary record.

I've been reading about this on a few other forums. Surely this can't be true, he's just too old now, he would be 37 at the TDF next year.

I really hope it's real though, I'd love to see Lance one last time at the Tour.

He should stick to sleeping with hot totty and the occasional MTB race. Trek or one of the sponsors must be paying him a fortune.

I hope he doesn't. I'm not especially keen on the mans personality anyway but I really don't see what is to be gained here unless it is monetary related, I can't imagine it doing anything for the credibility of the sport if he comes back and does well. There are few things sadder than seeing a once great sportsman chasing after past glories and failing - seeing them chase after past glories and succeeding is only marginally better.

Sounds like hes doing it just for the fun of it:)
Not many sportsmen are like that

edit: Ignore first post - completely wrong!

Wow, did not expect that but can't wait for next years Tour now :D

Its official and i think its very bad for the tour de france.

Cycling is trying to and starting to rid the sport of the dopers and now its allowing one of the biggest dopers ever to ride again.

I really hope he doesnt go to astana as contador has been promised there lead ride and if lance goes there contador WILL NOT ride for lance.

Misinformed clouded judgement based on no evidence of any form whatsoever, he was one of the main advocaters of scientific testing and doping tests and rubbished everything that was ever thrown at him

lol armstrong is WELL known to of doped he just never got caught.

Please do not try and say he didnt dope i will post up and make you seem silly

After his mate Kelly Slater (shame on you if you dont know who he is) won the last world champs, he texted Kelly to say he's gonna have to come out of retirement (Kelly is getting on in age but still tops the rankings)

Guess he wasn't really kidding!

Have you ever read the book lance to landis or the book bad blood?

Are you aware of the threats lance made to fello postal riders?

Are you aware the number one EPO doping doctor happened to be lance's doctor

Are you aware that 6 of his b samples from the 1999 tour de france tested positive for cortisone?

As you are aware lance armstong had testicular cancer.........do you know what the number one danger of using EPO is???

Its testicular cancer

Guess what.......two fellow postal riders who rode in the same team with lance armstrong and also used dr ferrari (Cyclings number one blood doper) also had testicular cancer.

Might coincidental that 3 riders i nthe same team all had testicular cancer the number one side effect of using epo eh

Ever seen this famous photo?

simeoni.jpg

Lance Armstrong is famously pictured chasing down Simeoni who would be testifying against Lance Armstrong's advisor Dr. Ferrari, who was once quoted as saying, "EPO is no more dangerous than Orange Juice if used correctly." Simeoni was hours behind Lance in the overall, but Lance made a point to chase him down individually. Once back in the peloton Lance was seen joking with other now banned pro riders such as Jan Ulrich making the zipping lips sign. Simeoni would end the stage in tears, but his testimony would lead to a 12 month suspended sentence for Dr. Ferrari who he claimed taught riders how to use the banned blood boosting drug EPO.

i think you need to open your eyes mate

Prior to lance armstong having testicular cancer he was an "average" tour de france rider and a pretty poor time triallist.

Infact out of his first 4 tour de frances he only managed to finish 1 ;)

During his cancer he teamed u with dr ferrari (Cyclings doping guru) less than 12 months after having cancer he went on to dominate the tour de france and become the best time triallist the tour had ever seen.

Chris Carmichae was the us postal coach implicated in administering the drugs to Greg Strock and Erich Keiter (Lances team mates) which they say gave them testicular cancer.

Chris carmichae is lance armstrong long time coach

Lance armstrong threatening Greg lemond over doping allegations

Lance Armstrong: "Oh come on, now, you're telling me you never done EPO?"

Greg LeMond: "Why would you say I did EPO?"

LA: "Come on, everyone's done EPO."

GL: "Why do you think I did it?"

LA: "Well, your comeback in '89 was so spectacular. Mine's a miracle, yours was a miracle. You couldn't have been as strong as you were in '89 without EPO."

GL: "Listen Lance, before EPO was ever in cycling, I won the Tour de France. First time I was in the Tour, I was third; second time I should have won but was held back by my team, third time I won it. It is not because of EPO that I have won the Tour, my haematocrit was never more than 45, but because I had a V02 max of 95, yours was 82. Tell me one person who said I did EPO."

LA: "Everyone knows it."

GL: "Are you threatening me?"

LA: "If you want to throw stones, I will throw stones."

GL: "So you are threatening me? Listen Lance, I know physiology; no amount of training can transform an athlete with a VO2 max of 82 into one with a VO2 Max of 95 and you have ridden faster than I did."

LA: "I can find at least ten people who will say you did EPO. Ten people who would come forward."

Oh and just some info on the failed drugs test lance gave

Yes, Lance Armstrong's "B" samples from the 1999 Tour de France were frozen and retested. 6 of these retested samples came back positive for EPO.

In 1999 there was no test for EPO, so the samples had to be frozen until the test arrived.

Results of the 1999 Lance Armstrong EPO tests from the SCA PROMOTIONS TRIAL:

A blood doping expert retained by litigants in the arbitration case testified that his analysis of EPO tests found results consistent with a series of injections during the Tour. A reading of 80% or higher was considered positive for EPO. Prologue, July 3: 2004 analysis of sample taken after this 4.2-mile sprint showed reading of 100%. Such a level is consistent with an injection within hours of the race. Stage 1, July 4: 89.7%. Stage 8, July 11: The next sample tested was from this 34.8-mile time trial. A positive reading via "visual interpretation" but no percentage reported. Stage 9, July 13: 96.6%. The first mountain stage. Stage 10, July 14: 88.7%. Stage 11, July 15: Missing. Stage 12, July 16: 95.2%. Stage 13, July 17: Positive reading via visual interpretation but no percentage reported. Stage 14, July 18: 89.4%. Stages 15-20, July 20-25: EPO levels undetectable.

The retained expert called these results consistent with what would be expected in an athlete who had ceased taking EPO injections.

Clean as a whistle that "miracle man" lance armstrong

so are you ignoring the fact that the man has an absolutely huge tidal capacity compared to most other humans, far as i'm aware doping doesnt increase your lung volumes?!

did he suddenly grow that capacity then because before teaming up with cyclings blood doping guru in 1999 he was a shoddy tour de france rider.

Entered 4 tour de frances prior to cancer and failed to finish in 3 of them.

His "huge tidal capacity" didnt help him much there eh ;)

Like to discredit his 6 failed epo samples from the 1999 tour de france do we?

Damn, do the UCI know all this? Do the TDF organisers know all of this? Damn, the Gendarmes even? How about David Walsh?

This is explosive!! They will never let him ride competitively again!!
