Do people actually care?

If you ask the average person about something like, say...child abuse, animal cruelty, suffering in general, they would say they care about it, they think it's bad and that it needs to stop.

But do they actually care? How much does the average person actually do? Most people spend their free time and money on stupid things like electronics, love and relationships, clothes, going out clubbing...etc, you know. If they really cared wouldn't they be doing more?

The reality is that people and animals suffer and die due to our inaction and selfishness.
If they really cared would they allow that to happen? If they really cared would they even be able to be at rest and have the peace of mind to do things like enjoy watching TV, getting involved in relationships/love, going out to the pub...etc?

That only works on the basis that there is something any single person could do to stop it all, which is obviously not the case.

Animals die because I eat them.
Exactly what can you do though? Seriously? Give a couple of quid to greenpeace and think that it somehow will make the world ok?
I donate blood because I know it saves lives, it costs me nothing at all. When it comes to charities, I give depending on if it has affected me in some way, same as everyone, I dare anyone to say otherwise. How else can you tell from the thousands of charities which one deserves your help more. Its all done from a human perspective. If you are affected by cancer, then I can almost guarantee that you want to give something back.

Whereas you spend your life dedicated to the cause of fluffy animals and helpless kids do you, whilst the selfish population dare to be a tad more concerned about their own life than the life of some bunny they've never met?

On an individual level, I believe If you truly cared you'd feel compelled to do eveything you could, regardless of how much of a difference it makes.

And obviously if everyone had this mentality or actually cared, then it would make a significant difference, but I believe the reality is that barely anyone truly cares, we'd rather serve ourselves and spend our time and money in trivial selfish pursuits whilst others sufferer and die horrifically. My point is that most of the people that say they care about these problems, really don't. They're liars and hypocrites.

Never said I care and never said I do anything. I even said that people/animals suffer and die due to OUR inaction. I'm just as guilty as everyone else.

I don't really care about things like that at all unless it directly affects me. If someone was drowning my cat for example etc.

I'd rather spend my money and time on me.

Yes, I'm selfish! :)

THANK YOU FOR THIS SHOCKING REVELATION, I AM NOW SELLING OFF ALL MY GOODS.

to become a fisher of men.

I care but not enough to do something.

It is true that we could solve the worlds famine but human nature makes us selfish and greedy and very tribalistic there is a sliding scale.

1) me and family
2) extended family close friends
3) other friends colleagues
4) area where we live
5) country we are born in
6) general issues affecting other countries.

Anything going on in 1 to 3 is going to get some care anything on the 4 to 6 is going to get some care depending on what's happening in 1 to 3 at any given time.

I'll sell my PC, sell my car, dump my girlfriend and quit work. Then I can go on a crusade against people who hurt rabbits. Yea!

Why should caring about animals mean selling your PC?

Thats just retarded. Seriously.

I believe he is saying that KittenCake was saying "Why do we buy these things and do these things with all the trouble in the world" Making out we should not have pretty things till we save the kitties.

Yeah, but kittens dont have much meat on them. Takes quite a few to make a decent barbie.

Yes, I believe all animals are food.
