Well he has a point, I care about animal welfare but I do have higher priorities most of the time - we can't care about /everything/.
Why are people constantly singling out animal wefare? It's as if you're doing it intentionally to devalue my point and make people disagree with me because people tend to care less about animals than people. I mentioned humans too.
Anyway he's ignored because he's being a child. First he tries to trash me and my argument with a load of rubbish pulled out of his ass because he can't even read the OP properly. That attempt failed so he moved on and spouted some other crap. He's done it in other threads also. Utter gimp.
Of course you care more about other things, that's part of my point. We care more about our stupid selfish pursuits. If we really, truly cared about people suffering...etc why would we at any point put that below something so comparatively petty and trivial like entertainment, going clubbing...etc. And just the fact that many people go about their daily lives doing these stupid trivial things seemingly not caring, doing nothing, but when people see and hear about these things they can't stop going on about how terrible it is and they want it to stop, and that they care, but they never do anything. If you truly cared you'd be compelled to do something, and you wouldn't have the peace of mind to do things like get involved in relationships...etc, and just generally live your life as most people do.
For example, say your 5 year old child went missing one night. You knew he/she was out there somewhere, could be in danger, lost, kidnapped, being raped, murdered, tortured. Obviously you truly care about your child. Would you have peace of mind until he/she was found? Would you be able to sit at home comfortably watching the TV? Would you be able to get involved in a relationship, go down the pub with mates and watch football? Would you be able to just get on with your life as normal? Nope. See if you truly cared, you wouldn't be able to.
Now if it's someone they don't know, someone miles away, someone in a different country suffering...etc, they do nothing, they feel nothing, they just go about their lives. It's not like they even demonstrate a remote amount of care, most people just ignore it completely and get on with their lives, relationships, watching TV, playing games, going out with mates and having a good time.
Nobody really cares. We could do something, we could achieve a hell of a lot if we wanted to, we could end a lot of these problems, but we simply choose not to, we would rather engage in selfish petty pursuits, living in our own little bubble of happiness and perfection, ignoring all of the horrific things happening on the outside.
If you ask the average person about something like, say...child abuse, animal cruelty, suffering in general, they would say they care about it, they think it's bad and that it needs to stop.
But do they actually care? How much does the average person actually do? Most people spend their free time and money on stupid things like electronics, love and relationships, clothes, going out clubbing...etc, you know. If they really cared wouldn't they be doing more?
The reality is that people and animals suffer and die due to our inaction and selfishness.
If they really cared would they allow that to happen? If they really cared would they even be able to be at rest and have the peace of mind to do things like enjoy watching TV, getting involved in relationships/love, going out to the pub...etc?
I don't care.
I don't care. Why? because there are important things to worry about that affect me, and to be honest, nobody looks out for you but yourself. If I was to do everything I could for the starving children in Africa it would make no difference at all and my life would be miserable. I have more important things in my life to worry about than other things like that. It doesn;t mean im a heartless so and so, but I have a priority list and I'm at the top as it is my life.

What is your point?
Most people spend their free time and money on stupid things like ... love and relationships, clothes...
Do I have to explicitly make a point? I was just starting a dicussion. Also I have explicitly mentioned a point already anyway.
Firstly anyone that says they care about these things is probably a liar and a hypocrite, and secondly that I dislike the selfish shortsighted nature of people and our species in general.

If you dislike it so much, what do /you/ do to "care" for other people and ease the plight in the third world?
Rich
Never said I do anything, and when I say I dislike that nature and selfishness that means I dislike it in myself also. I was just thinking yesterday about how I have lived my entire life just serving myself, dedicating my time and money to petty trivial things and not doing anything to help anyone or make anything better.
I was reading about and watching some of the terrible things that are happening and that have happened, and I felt ashamed and disgusted with myself that I have done nothing. People and animals are experiencing hell, suffering and dying, and all this time I have just been at home watching TV, playing games, enjoying myself, seemingly not even caring.
