ran the system preformance test that's built into lost planet colonies edition and started at 10FPS dropped to 1 or lower the crashed. anyone know what can be causing this??

OS: XP Home 32Bit
GFX: Xpertvision 9600GT 512mb Driver version 175.19(latest on nvidia site)
Ram: 2x1GB Corsair XMS2 667
PSU: 650W Corsair TX (new upgrade to test if PSU was the problem)
CPU: AMD Athlon 6400+ 3.2GHz, Never overclocked - 42Degrees idle temp
MOBO: Asrock alive SATA2GLAN

7300gt is way underpowerd for this game grab a 8800gt or sometyhing

edit my mistake see you have a 9600gt that should handle it ok try driver cleaner in safe mode then re install gfx drivers

I'm gonna recommend the obvious, use driver sweeper and reinstall all drivers from scratch if you haven't already done so.

i've tried driver cleaner as reccomended by someone elsewere and also tried different driver version for it as reccomended by someone at OCUK when i sent a webnote to them.
edit: just going to test run the game with the optomiser installed.

I'm running the game on:

AMD X2 6000+
XFX 9800GT 512mb
4gb DDR2 RAM PC6400
Asus M3N-HT Deluxe

And i don't have any issues like that it runs well over 60 fps on average on maximum settings at 1440*900

It could be the motherboard that is the problem. I used to use the exact same board and the VIA chipset it uses causes problems with gen2 video cards (9600gt being one of them i believe) I bought a 8800gt when they were first released and it would not even get past the system boot checks, so i went back to my 7900gs :(

How do your other games perform?

all games now seem to freeze/crash and the computer restarts after about 30 seconds now, even the ones that did run perfect before.

crysis ran on my 7300, low setting but i managed to finish it with no problems, now this upgraded card crashes a few minits into gameplay.

apparently from what i've read on google there's a problem with some 9600's where the fan slows down as the temperature goes up. which if this is happening the overheating from the fan not working could cause it to give up.

e-mailed technical support at ASROCK to check if the card is compatible with their motherboard.

anyone recomend a motherboard if the GFX card isn't compatible with my current board? to run:
OS: XP Home 32Bit
GFX: Xpertvision 9600GT 512mb Driver version 175.19(latest on nvidia site)
Ram: 2x1GB Corsair XMS2 667

Try the card in another PC if possible to rule out GPU being faulty.
Have you updated the bios?
Cant recomend a mobo as i never had AMD sytem (one day maybe :) )

i could try the graphics card in my dads pc tomorow to test if the card does the same there.

fonz-valo- with does an 8800 GTX require higher specs than the 9600GT? eg better motherboard

Well i think your PSU is definitely upto the job of running an 8800GTX but i'm not sure about the motherboard unfortunately.

As i stated before Gen2 video cards generally do not work on this motherboard unless they are flashed with a Gen1 bios. i think the 8800GTX IS a gen2 card unfortunately.

It might be worth asking in the graphics card section of the forum as someone in there will definitely give you a better answer :)

I hope that helps you :)

edit: from what i've read elsewere the newer cards have backwards compatibility with the older motherboards

what are the chance that this problem is caused by either or the following:
Sophos antivirus?
Sound Card?

obviously prefer not to uninstall an antivirus before knowing it could be that.
