I am going to be off to the US in late Oct, early Nov for a long weekend (approx 5days), and was wondering where would be best to go?

I went to NYC last Christmas, so thats not an option this time.

I have been thinking of Chicago, but would appreciate any other ideas, or even just hints on what to do in Chicago if that sounds good to you!

Thanks

DC is too small, you'll get bored by the 3rd day and there is zero to do at the weekend. It's a city of business and most things are only open Mon-Fri. Boston would probably be best, Chicago doesn't have a great deal to do, either.

Chicago's a brilliant place, it's got the nicer parts of New York without so much of the muck in it.

Las Vegas, and San Francisco are two other options on the west side.

Vegas of course should be in your thoughts!!
However I have another vote for Chicago (will be pretty cold come November though). It is an awesome city and very clean with lots of things to do and see!

Vegas is not for me. SF is too far.

What is there to do in Boston then? I wasnt so sure about it as its much smaller than Chicago.

I went to Boston a few years ago and it's one of my favourite places in the US. Just found it very relaxing place to be.

Things to do, Freedom Trail, Quincy Market, Science Museum, Aquarium, lech at the college girls, sit on Boston Common watching the world go by, eat at Legal Seafood ....

I've been to NY and SF as well as Boston and Boston is the one I would like to go back to the most.

Also see here.

Flights are £300-£400... its the hotels that shock though. Spending ~£300 a day on a holiday isnt that unusal though tbh.

With regards to activities, i like to be doing things and not sat around all the time. I quite like just wondering around looking at buildings/people though (i did a lot of this in NYC!). I also like to see sports as they are always interesting for the atmosphere, as well as gigs. I am not into amusement parks, and am not one for a party holiday! oh and going to museums isnt for me either.
