Hi there,

I have a 2.0 petrol audi a4 (2001) and it is at the minimum oil level.

Father is away on holiday just now but he has oil left in the garage.

The oil is Quantum 15W-40 (VW 505.00 01/97)

The oil says turbo diesel on the front but from memory he has put this in my car before, the carton doesn't mention anything about petrol engines which worries me.

Can't find the right spec of oil to be used for this engine and don't want to drive to work tomorow morning with the oil at minimum.

Can take pictures of the oil carton if required?

Thanks

If it's near or at the minimum line you won't cause any damage. If it's below it needs topping up.

The correct oil type/weight etc will be in the manual, or may be on a sticker under the bonnet. The stuff you have will get you to work and back fine but if it is drastically the wrong stuff you'll have to change the oil. Is there another VAG car in the family? If not i'd assume that's what's in your car.

The stuff about it being for a diesel means it's got detergents in it that help clean a diesel engine. I've had a diesel oil recommended to me for my Volvo by GSF and it came from their book. I didn't use it becasue it was fully synthetic and i wanted semi.

EDIT. Is that a packaging date after the VW500.00? If so i wouldn't use it.
