iRacing release price details

You can test any car you've bought (on any track you've bought) 'offline' yes,

As for the SR, it'll probably need a fairly high level licence yes, probably A or B (currently got skippy at D and Mazda at C)

You can buy any car you like and run it on track....but only in test.

PS SKILL where were you that last race? you let me off easy....finally my first win at laguna though :D

Congrats on the win,

lost it stupidly at the turn before the corkscrew on the first lap, hit the wall so had to reset so lap down straight away, d'oh

Was quite chuffed with my first corner as well, did my usual slow but not causing an accident round the outside of T1, and didn't actuall lose a place, until I spun :p

Was wondering actually Bigsy, looking at your history doesn't look like you've raced the skippy yet? how you finding it (assuming you're testing it?)

Just running a couple of test sessions each day on all the series tracks, I do enjoy it to some degree, it is frustrating to drive at the moment.

It's a lot like GPL (crazy power off oversteer), and it took me a long time to learn how to get consistency out of that. But once you get the confidence to chuck it around a bit and keep it on the black stuff the real fun begins i'm sure.

I'm enjoying the rookie solstice still, but I'll slowing start winding it down and dip my toe into some skippy races when I'm relatively confident I can do race distance without swapping ends.

Yeah, I probably dived in too quickly, but find it hard to test online for more than the fist 40-50 laps or so, after that (eg once I vaquely know the track/car combo) I end up just pushing for quicker lap times and crashing lots. I crash less in the races as I'm generally not chasing the lap times.

The power off oversteer is evil, especially at VIR South at the esses, and the 'fish hook' corner,

Annoyingly I seem to have forgotten how to drive the solstice properly quickly since driving the skippy though, occasionally put in a 1:49.8/9 but not the consistant mid 1:49's I managed before...

Have you tried the ovals at all? the Advanced Legends is a truly evil car, needs better throttle control than doing monaco in GPL, and thats when only turning left :p

The thing that puts me off racing the skippy is that my iRating seems quite good, if I'm reading the stats correctly and do a search on RR, 2000+iR, rookie, uk, I come out at about 4th with only about 20 other people. This is where the system falls down a bit, I think, as I'm really not that good to get thrown in with the big boys in the skippy races. I would HATE to mess it up for any of them.

And no, I did 1 qually session in the rookie legends to see what it was like. I intend to do some oval racing towards the end of next month (before the seasons ends) to get my D oval license.

Fair enough, fairly sure my iRating isn't so good :p

Although just done a search, 2000+ showed 21 drivers, you in 17th on the list, but then 1000+, which I expected to show everyone from 1000 upwards, put me at 85th, you nowhere that I could see, and there was one of the guys that's above you in the 2000+ list who's a few places below me in the 1000+ list. Seems either i'm doing something wrong or their search/filter is a bit messed up :p

My skippy qualifying time is quite poor so I end up either right at the back (bar the odd person that didn't qualify, and that's their choice imo, don't mind making it hard for them as long as I don't hit them :p) or around people roughly my own speed, so it's working so far... :)

Ovals are odd, had some good races in the rookie legends (nice and easy to drive but everyone seems around the same speed so close racing), then did an advanced legends race earlier that I was dreading, but I led and won from pole with only 1 slight error (bit more sideways than I wanted :p) in 40 laps, which was tense but ultimately a bit dull :p

EDIT: Just had a bit more of a play, definately think the iRating search/sort (at least for rookies) is a bit broken, if I don't filter by iRating (just uk rookies) I get 299 results, if I then sort by licence level/SR with the arrow above it pointing down I get the Rookie 4.99 people at the number 1 position down, if I do the same with iRating then I'm in 88th and you are listed in 293 which is blatantly wrong...

Im getting so bored of the solstice, no, infact its damn right annoying me now, i think i need my 4.00 then i can get the skippy and a new track (going to cost me a fortune) im just annoyed really, i cant get to grips with Laguna at all, i have my running times down to 1.50:1xx, but i still tend to make more mistakes on this track rather than LRP...oh and people have no idea you CANT go 2 wide into the corkscrew, it just doesnt work people..grrr..the joys of IRacing , lose your hair in an hour.

Only thing I don't like about laguna is that I'm rubbish in the middle sector, turn before the bridge and to a lesser extent the corkscrew, just can't get them right no matter what I try, and always get closed right up to in races here.

And yeah I think the stats are a little bust SKILL, but I think the 2000+ search is right (and yes your right I'm about 17th/18th on that) because its quite easy to estimate your iRating. If you look at this recent race we were both in (http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/EventResult.do?&subsessionid=202748) the average iRating of racers (ie SOF) was 2047 and I was car #3 that must put me a little over 2000+.

Yeah, had one guy try it up there, just let him past though, not worth even trying to defend there, he soon span off anyway :p

With your middle sector, i've watched you a few times in warmup and you seem to turn in much later than me for turn 4 (think that's the one, the one before the one before the corkscrew :p), I aim to brake just before the white marker, turn in early and get the power down, I exit it around 6250 when I get it right and easily shift up to 4th before the fast turn before the corkscrew. Changing to do that shaved a good .4-.5 off my best when I was still learning, but then you're already far quicker than I was at that stage so maybe not :p

And yeah, think the filter is correct (eg 2000+) but that the sorting after that is wrong, so you've got an iRating of 2000+ but I'm not sure exactly where you are in that list of 21 if that makes sense, guessing the sortworks off the 'number' in the box, which is obviously '----' for us and hence it fails, whilst the filter works off the value in the database, thats my guess at least :p

I've said in various places I hated the Solstice and I think it's a lousy advert for the sim. Others disagree... I suspect they may be insane. ;-)

Encouraged by others I spent a whole week just entering races (1 a day, two if I felt very masochistic) and driving slowly at the back of the field. Not that I can drive quickly anyway! (1:05+ was my best lap in that monstrosity)

It was worth the mind numbing tedium to get my SR up to 4. Not 3... the advanced Solstice is only marginally less dull than the basic. I objected to paying more for the Skip Barber, then adding the two tracks I needed to cover my month trial, but it was worth it. That car contains the spirit of GPL! I may never buy another vehicle.

Especially as I didn't renew my first month. ;-)

I miss the Skip Barber immensely, but I know in my heart I'm just nowhere near serious enough to fit the current iRacing model. I find it hard to forget the SR and iRating, and I'm so slow (even in the Skip Barber) that I got tired of lapping on my own.

I did have two exceptional races in my month, but there were nowhere near enough slow drivers racing when I can race (usually after night work in the UK) to make it worth my while continuing. The Aussies I kept racing were all way too fast for me. :-)

Yet even as I type that I want to re-subscribe and take the SB out for a spin... especially now I've got my Triplehead setup sorted out (though not with decent monitors yet). I just know that without a big increase in the user base I'll only get disappointed again. So I intend to stay out as long as I can. Some days I think that might be forever. Some days about ten minutes. :-)

just not gonna happen with Laguna lol

I like Laguna, it reminds me of my first PC sim racing in ICR2. But I agree that for some reason the Solstice at Laguna is torture. At Lime Rock it's merely annoying & frustrating.

Just put the radio on, drive gently, clock up racing laps (where you score most SR), and keep out of other people's way. You'll be up to 4 before you know it if you can avoid the temptation to push hard in that tank.

I keep pulling my fastest laps out at the end of a race, did a 1:50 dead on Laguna last night in the rookie solstice, I can see where I can make up another 0.5 seconds so 1:49 is possible.

I do a 1:04 flat around Lime Rock, but I'm consistant there and keep lapping sub 1:05 for the whole race so can generally walk it.

Starting to get used to Laguna now, haven't raced it much at all as it put me off but once you get familiar it starts getting good - had a great race last night there but only managed second after making a bizarre mistake (I think I was itching my nose at the time). :D

Laguna, whilst not as nice as LRP, isn't too bad once you're used to it, I still make stupid mistakes but generally not down to me pushing too hard, just me being stupid :p

I like the Solstice as well, I race the Skip Barber, and yes it's better, but the Solstice is still quite good fun, both in rookie and advanced forms, I find it's good practice for forcing yourself to be smooth, the skippy can be quick and 'rough' at the same time, the Solstice needs to be smooth to get even close to being quick...

Solstice for smoothness, Advanced Legends for throttle control, decent 'learning' cars there imo :)

I've not purchased any other cars yet, got my eye on the Radical but everyone seems to go for the Skippy?

Personally I prefer tintops.

I have however purchased Silverstone but have nothing to race on it... I think I need to buy a Mazda to race there? Bit meh.

If you can join a race as the only entrant, then you can find out your iRating (while still a Rookie) as the SOF for the race will be only one person's - yours!

This was easier to do during the beta when the numbers were lower, might be a bit tricky now.

Yeah the Mazda series uses Silverstone (and Road Atlanta? iirc),

I bought the Mazda just for fun, not really used it much, and the Skippy cause I got to the level to race it, I'll probably be buying the Late Model next as I should be getting my oval SR to 4.00 soon.

I'll no doubt buy the Radical when I'm racing the Mazda to get a bit of a feel for it before being able to race it,

Assuming of course I get my SR high enough in the next couple of licences to be looking likely to get the B class :p
