i want to buy an alfa am i mad?

The 156 GTA is a quicker car surprisingly, same as the 2.0 156 is quicker than the 147. Seems crazy since the 156 is larger.

3.2's are seriously the best of the range. I suppose Alfa's equivilent of the BMW M series but certainly not the performance or the price.

A real Alfa enthusiasts car.

Until AutoDelta breathe on them :)

I have just sold my 99 GTV and I have to say I was gutted to see it go. Had very little wrong with it. Well nothing that someone with no meghanical knowledge couldnt fix.

I have to agree with the earlier post linking to the alfa ownerc forum it has been a good source of information and contrary to popular belief you can source some very cheap alfa parts from links on that site. A garage quoted me £190 to replace my MAF. Managed to source a new part from the forum and fit it myself for £35 (got a good quality Bosch part as well).

What engine was your GTV? TS?
I really shouldn't want a GTV but they've been going for dirt cheap recently, and it's high on my list of car wants...
However, it'd be another couple of months before I'd have a decent pool of cash set aside for when it breaks... By that time I might as well have just thought of a "better" car to own.

It was the 2l TS. I loved it. I had to sellit due toi an increasing family and the need to mature and be sensible. I loks a load of money on it due to the current financial climate. Have a look on Autotrader when I looked there were only about 60 in the country (get in I thought I will be able to get a good price) but they are very cheap. I have seen 1999 and 2000 3l ones going for £2600 - £3000. I had to sell mine in the end for £1700 as I already had my new car and time was of the essence.

My advice is if you want one now would appear to be the time but, and dont quote me on this, as an enthusiast said to me the problem witrh GTV's and reliability is that when in production the only used the best sporting parts out there and as such didnt have as long a shelf life. However parts are cheap. Look out for rear suspension (I have seen rear wishbones for £54) and on older models the windscreen seals can go letting a bit damp in.

147 2.0 Lusso :)

It's already had an tiny breath of autodelta, i.e. remap and autodelta exhaust.

S/C would be great though - but I just can't afford it at the moment.

However I'm tempted to just leave it and buy a GTA instead, though I'm tempted by the 156 GTA...

Going to cost a few thousand isn't it?

Thanks to Mr Darling the price of GTA's could take a bit of a tanking shortly. I am in agreement I prefer the 156 GTA, even the Sportwagon. Still I wouldn't say no to a 147.

Guess I will have to keep dreaming with my finances at the moment. :(

I can afford to buy, run and insure one... however now's not the sensible time to be doing it! :D

Yeah the conversion is a few grand - no point really, but still would be fun! :D You know me and my sleepers ;)

Speaking of modifications, I quite fancy a standard bore Power-flow exhaust, get rid of 2 of the 3 silencers, keep the last one and the CAT. And getting rid of the resonator on the intake.

I got a quote for a powerflow exhaust for my GTV and it was around £500. I was tempted as I used to have on on my old peugeot 406 coupe and they do make a difference (unless you accidentally get a end (technical speak) that is too large and makes you sound like a chav driving around as I almost did.

well i have found a nice one, W reg 156 2.5 v6 in dark blue with sports pack 63,000 miles with cambelt done 3k ago and has a fsh going to see it on saturday hopefully!

Theres a buyers guide for the 147 and 156 GTA's in EVO's spin off mag of cheaper high performance cars check out nany big smiths and a copy should be there for you to read through, even if your not getting a GTA i imagine many of the pointers will be relevant across the range
