Hi Guys,

In the middle of buying a second-hand 60Gb PS3 and just wanted to check theres nothing obvious to look out for regards to wear and tear or indicators its dying :p

I know its not as temperamental as an Xbox 360 but thought Id better check...

Also is there anyway of extending the warranty directly with Sony? Ive been told you can by paying £5 a month?

TIA

Make sure its not a George Foreman grill.

lol...

You could just test out a few games on it and see if it works fine, like taking a car for a test drive.

Doing exactly that and a couple of DVDs (got no BDs) - just want to understand if loud fan noise indicates something, long spin up time for discs or it disconnecting controllers etc might show something...

Just like checking for rust :p. Hopefully this is useful for other people

Ive not owned one before, never played one so just thought Id better ask you knowledgeable lot...

First, ask the seller his reasons for selling it. Ask him as much questions as possible and see if he slips, if he slips up, the PS3 might be defective. If the fans are load and discs take a long to load, then its probably best to not buy it.

People try and sell broken consoles all the time, all for a quick buck. Don't be a victim.

Cool Ive already asked a few questions along those lines - I know its quieter than an Xbox 360 and its not really used since the owner prefers the Xbox 360...

Looking forward to it :D

Wahoo just got it - well happy :)

Now I need to set it up and thrash some of you monkeys :p. Any tips/hints/guides on anything I need to be aware of?

Im loving the tips - honestly hadnt thought of them so will check/avoid...

BTW when the PS3 accesses data from the BD ever so often is it relatively loud.noticeable? Just kept noticing while playing F1 CE...

Loud fans, oh dear god, loud fans. I received a replacement unit from sony recently (if you haven't seen my thread) and it is SO loud, unbearably. Make them run drakes fortune for 1/2 mins if you have to, it sounds like a 747 taking off.

Some games have to access the BD on a fairly regular basis, noticed it on Fifa 08 which then the noise is noticable. But I've only noticed this with Fifa as I believe most other games require an install which eliminates this?

The game I noticed it in was F1 CE - though I suspect it was just loading stuff as normal, just it was quite audible on what seems to be quite a quiet machine...

Its definitely a bit louder than the PS2 and it sounds much more mechanical. Its not worrying just much more noticeable. It definitely apppears to be happening when its accessing the disc..
