PS3 wont play DVD .....hmmmm

anybody got a problem with DVD playing on the PS3 ?

To be fair... one disk was a baby scan that we got done at a screening centre.... said DVD rom on the menu... clicked it.... black screen... TV said no signal.... and just froze... could eject disk... but had to flick switch on PS3.... fair enough - just the way the disk was mastered I guess. Played ok on DVD player and PC (as you would expect)

Tried (wait for it).... Nieces...Peppa Pig DVDs .... all bought etc as she was visiting today..... Same problem... black screen etc.

Games are working fine - not had a chance to try Blu Ray yet (!)
and all my DVDs are not here to try.

Problem ?

(am using HDMI > LG HD Tv)

Its not a problem as such its more to do with your TV and the PS3 upscaler, as a test turn off the upscaler and try again.

just found a film - the others on DVD (original unscratched....)

checked the upscaler setting - its `off`

same thing - black screen - blue light on the PS3.... no video

Is your PS3 a UK PAL one?
Blu Ray discs are region free but the PS3 will still only play specific region DVDs.

yeah its a pal one.... 60gb one.

`the others` is region 2

Ok trying to remember as i had this before, change the display settings to non HD ie un tick 720 and 1080 and leave the 540 or whatever it is, and try again.

cheers mate that fixed it.... unticked them all except 1080p.... it was on automatic - guess it couldnt choose.

Now im in for a days worth of Peppa Pig on DVD...
