Best cooler for a HD4870?

Just replaced the stock cooler on a Sapphire 4870 with the Accelero S1 coupled with a Scythe 800rpm 120mm fan. Very fiddly putting it on but certainly worth it:

Stock idle temp: 68
Stock load temp: 87

S1 idle temp: 44
S1 load temp: 56

And it's now completely inaudible :)

So do you have to get any extra ram sinks if using the Accelero S1?

No, it comes with heatsinks for the VRAM - though they really don't stick; in fact they fall off at the slightest shake. I had gotten some Akasa thermal adhesive tape which did the job beautifully though. Also, one of the heatsinks for the VRAM gets in the way of a heatpipe and must be bent in order to fit - an easy 5 minute job.

The standard tape on the heatsinks was perfectly fine here, when I took the ramsinks back off I had to be careful, they where hard to get off, if anything it was just as good as the Akasa thermal tape I am using now.

Anyone have any ideas when the Accelero S1 might be coming back in stock?

As I'm typing this I can hear the stock fan on mine hunting up and down as the temp sits at 80 DegC just surfing this forum:mad:

With the PI82 case, wouldn't there be a problem with all that heat being spread inside - using the S1? Ideally wouldn't an exaust style cooler be better?

I'm using a P182 and Accelero S1 and its fine....

This case aint very good for cooling tho.

Have to say when I got a neo vortexx for my 4870 is was pretty disappointed by the temperatures, although it is 'pretty' quiet at full blast. Thinking of getting the S1 but not convinced it wont cook my case (p182) with everything inside it.

edit: for the record, my temperatures (with the neo) are 55 / 73 idle on core/vrm and 80 / 100+ on load (not brilliant but about 10 celcius better than stock, woopdeedoo!)

A cooler that "pretty quiet" is not good enough in my opinion, I want as close to silence as you can get with air cooling which is why I got the Accelero S1 with a 800rpm 120mm fan. While I was concerned the overall temperature would rise, I can report that both the CPU and motherboard temperatures remain unchaged. Might actually add another 800rpm 120mm fan at the top exchaust (already have one front, back and on the TRUE) as these aren't exactly high-airflow fans.

Interesting, can I ask what temperatures you get on your CPU? Annoyingly, the S1 is out of stock :(

Edit: Have to reassess my VRM temps from before, they just hit 120+

Anyone got VRM temps with the S1? (got mine from rivatuner)
