**WoW vs War The discussion thread**

Well going by the fact that War isn't officially out yet, I doubt we're going to have a great discussion.

Most peoples opinions will be from a friend of a friend who has played the Beta or watching videos of it online.

WOW is good

WAR is good

ALL mmo's released recently and in the future will play the same, UI, go kills x amount of, PVP objectives.

Good luck to both games, played WOW for 3 years on and off, now I am off to WAR after being conned by Conan.
 
The combat in War looks sluggish and boring compared to WoW's more action packed and fluid system.

This can't even be argued with, I don't care if War is more indepth it simply looks clunky compared to how smooth WoW is.

Also, I don't intend on playing either game ever again.

A low level RvR vid I made from some random fights the other night:

That to me doesnt look clunky compared to WoWs combat. People seem to be basing views on old footage, and footage mainly showing havily armoured tanks whose movement *will* be restricted.
It gets a lot more fluid at higher levels with more skills.
 
WoW is so bad, WAR copied the interface..

I have not played WAR yet, still waiting for a key. But wow was and still is the bench mark games have to beat to get ahead. Maybe wow isnt perfect, but overall, with the addon's, patches, guilds, teamspeak/V servers, it was one of the most fun games out there. Sure its looks outdated in the graphic side, but as AoC proved, its not everything. If the game play isnt right, the items done right, log in done right, lag spikes got rid off, then you wont beat wow and if you dont beat wow at a online game from 4 years ago, then you wont hold your players after the month free is over.

I hope WAR is good. I look forward to playing it and will give it a go. If its not better than wow, ill go back to wow as my chars have had a lot of time invested into them to leave for a game that isnt better.

With luck, the people behind WAR have played wow, looked at what works and what can be improved via game mechs and tweaked war to run better and more fun. Only time will tell i guess.

WoW PvP was better before the Battlegounds came out
Open fights near southshore, Fighting off a load of allys invading the Undercity was fun. Even running battles in ashvale was it ? was a long time ago now.

BG created a treadmill that ment you had to play every day or lose place. That wasnt fun after a week and after a month made you hate logging on.
Arenas arent really my thing, if i wanted that I'd play guildwars for no monthly sub.

War has a good idea, if it works out then it will be great.

What I will give WoW was it made MMO for the masses (low PC spec and shallow learning curve)
EQ2 came out around the same time and went a more hardcore route but after a year started to back off as WoW stole its thunder in a big way.

WoW is a compromise, an everymans game.
Using a car analogy its a ford focus that well do eerything you want pretty well without be amazing at any one thing.

Who sells more units Ford or ferrari? doesnt mean either is better does it.

But is anyone asks Ill have the ferrari
 
No MMO is perfect, all are better than others at certain things.

The combat system may be better on WoW, whereas the from what I have read about WAR as not played it yet the concept behind the game has the potential to be better than WoW.

In addition, and to throw something else into the mix, LOTRO looks better visually than both :p

i played WoW for about 2.5 years, and it was good fun but it grew tiresome.

Im mainly bored with the style of warcraft. The armour that looks like its fresh out of the power rangers, the glows and huge spikes are just becoming silly in my eyes.

I love blizzard and their sheer ability to create brilliant games. they make them a bit too addictive too! lol, diablo 2 and wow both took big chunks of my time :)

Ill probably give war a shot, but it seems very similar to warcraft.

i recently went back to lord of the rings online, and although graphics arent really the most important thing, they are stunning in lotro and add a huge amount to the atmosphere. Lotro has a lot of polish that id overlooked. Wow and War arent the only good games about!
 
WAR does look pretty good but lets face it, nothing is gonna top WoW.

for example, before AoC was release, majority was raving about it, trying to find a substitue for WoW, and thats all MMO that come after WoW will be, a substitute.

If you want the real deal, you play WoW, hence all the people including me, running back from AoC to play WoW again.

Agreed. LOTRO looks stunning, especially with the DX10 features enabled. If they had extended the PvP (which they are doing with the expansion), it might have gained and maintained a larger following imo.
