Metallica - Death Magnetic

Yes the productions poor, get over it, the songs are great, discuss the songs.

Make another thread if you want to slate each others views and tastes, stop ruining my thread with your arguing.

nobody's arguing, its a discussion. im just interested especially with neoni's well known distain for Lars anway. The quality of the album is poor but as i mentioned, its no poorer than probably 90% of the rest of the stuff out there in the same genre.

Slipknot just released "All Hope Is Gone" yes not the best of bands, but there production is so much better than Death Magnetic in terms of quality.

Its a thread about the Album as a whole...so thats what were discussing i dont doubt the songs are decent, but id enjoy it so much more if the sound was nicer on the ears.

I understand that part, but moaning about each others opinions and trying to prove someone's wrong isn't really interesting for people who want to talk about the album.

Anyway, I've listened to it a few times now, i have to say i enjoy the album, but it's not one i could listen to a lot to be honest, i find it slightly "samey".

Average enough to have headlined 3 different stages in the UK this year whilst not having released an album in 9 years.
If they are that average, just how many other bands copy Morello's style? ;).

sound quality of the cd's:o think about it, i wouldn't say i loved them and then say they were average if i were talking about the music, would i?

I think the production is excellent and I would have been very proud to have pulled off a sound like that with a band.
Hell, I'm not even doing a Music tech degree either.
Sometimes I can't believe the crap that some people spout.

AND, Lars is an amazing drummer and this album goes to prove it.
The drumming on this album has just put him in front of Dave Lombardo for me.
If any of you can better him then prove it.

You dont have ears.

:o thats quite a reversal of opinions dmpool :p

i never personally doubted his abilities. There's a difference between not being able to play and just not sounding right (which is a personal thing anyway). Awkward really is the only way i can describe it but technically, not that i know anything, ive always liked Lars.

no, this i really cant agree with. if they are pushing things to the point of distortion on the cd then it's poor production, there's no doubt about that.

thats all im getting at, any producer, mastering suite should be able to produce an album without distorting and clipping coming into the mix.

yes but you went as far as calling it dog **** lol. i dont agree with that either.

dog **** in terms of sound quality mate.... the levels are fine. processing, but the distortion in my terms makes the sound crap.

As for playin its all fine, no problems with it, as said if it was mastered better i could listen to it happily.

Mine doesn't distort, perhaps there are poor copies out there.
Are you listening to the version off the newsgroups - that clipped?

Lars an awesome drummer?

lol

ABSOLUTELY - tight as a ducks arse and I love his fills in the wrong places.
he's not as good as Ian Paice but then again who is?

After a few listens, the only thing that stands out as maybe not up to scratch are Kirk's solos. Maybe I was just easier to impress in my youth.

I'm going to agree with Neoni on this. The mastering is just awful. I wouldn't expect this from a band as rich as Metallica.

I can listen to it through my headphones fine but through my amp I just can't.

I'm not going to go in depth about the quality because those who disagree don't care and those who agree already know.

The songs though. They are great. I was hoping for something a bit more new but I think we would have another St Anger which we don't want.

btw Lars is a tool. A complete and utter tool. Fine drummer though.
