Hey guys...can anyone help?

I used to be really into Anime when I was around 16..im 27 now :p and kind of forgot the must see movies..I still remember akira..but my question is can anyone recommend me a list (even old ones) that I should see to get me back into it? (to buy/rent)

I remember liking patlabor, but im sure theres loads of must see movies!

Much appreciated :)

I liked akira when I was around 16 (now 28) but having watched it recently again I found it rather boring, my tastes have changed obviously.

Don't seem overly keen on patlabor, started watching the series and got bored but I suppose the films might be better.

As to what to watch.
Final fantasy movies - not strictly anime more cg but basic premise is the same as anime.
Gundam OVA's (basically gundam seed etc compressed into film)
Appleseed and Applessed Ex Machina
Metropolis
Paprika will probably be mentioned by a few others too.

Personally though I would look at some of the earlier posts (last couple of pages) and look for some of the series recommendations, most of us probably prefer the series options to movies.

Anyways anyone else watched Zegapain - think end of world kind of matrix with mecha type thing. I just watched it and although it had a fairly slow start it didn't turn out too bad nearer the end and it had a few bits which made you think for a little while too.

I've never seen the first of these as it's title always made me thought that it fell under Yaoi genre, even though that isn't the case. May have to consider picking it up at some point in the future (Sept-Nov being expensive at the moment)

I have Aria on pre-order for it release later this month .... heard various good things about it although it's supposed to be quite slow plot wise?

Funimation are supposed to be announcing (yet) another new title next week ... I think the front runners in the speculation at the moment are Slayers Revolution(?) and Bamboo Blade ... I'd prefer the latter of these as I'm familiar with the series ;)

Had a package come today, Kujibiki Unbalance OP and ED theme cds and some Clannad DVDs (trying to get all of these on R2 special edition at the moment ... although Vol 8 may be tricky. Lots of nice extras :))

Aria is a very slow and easy anime,no violence, ecchi etc but it is great for a lazy relaxing evening or Sunday afternoons watch:)
I would be interested in what you think of the image quality when the disk arrives, the dvd i saw looked to be washed out colour wise imhomind you the `version`i watched previous to that was supposd to be 1280x720 HD and looked sharp,Soundtrack is good too very classical in nature
Got to admit it was only by chance that i watched ouran high too,but it is inmo fun, comedy throughout the entire series(has the usual beach, school festival etc plots)again not a violent action anime but has more action than aria
As it has an English dub it should be like a new/different series compared to different translation(tv-DVD)Hope so anyway :)

Well spenting most of today watching Rahxephon whilst reinstalling a laptop .... though that it was ok with hints of NGE but did seem a bit draggy at times.

Thats the problem I seem to see everywhere about rahxephon, nge always gets brought up and is never seen in its own light. I suppose its like gundam and mecha though.

I watched rahxephon before nge (actually haven't seen it yet, waiting on a decent box set with everything to come out again!) and I didn't think it was too bad and wasn't too draggy except for one episode where ayato was doing an 'emo' thing.

Oh, don't get me wrong ... I thought that it was better than NGE (which personally I think is highly overrated) and wasn't a "bad" series at all to watch ... it's just you look at it, and even more so NGE, and think well you could actually do a nice series with the same plot in half the episodes and the pacing would be a lot better.

Anyway, I'm happy as UP have added the November release of Nanoha, Familiar of Zero and Strawberry Panic #5 to their catalogue so I can order them and not have to keep trying to remember to do so ....

I'm not so sure, I think if it was shortened too much you would miss some of the finer details that it has. Anyways you might have prefered the film its basically a shortened retelling of the story.

After the action of yesterday today, well .... it had more a ecchi feel ...

Started off watching Aika R-16 (3 part OVA). Hmmm .... not bad and it's quite amusing the way that if any of the mostly female cast gets knocked out they always land rear end in the air and legs-a-kimbo :) Like the previous Aika series if you don't see some pantsu within two minutes of the last showing then it means your DVD player has stopped. Hehehe you can't accuse this of being deep and meaningful but it's a good laugh.

Next I finished the last few disks of Shuffle. I wanted to like this more than I found myself doing. While it's Kyoto Animation production the animation is a bit iffy at times, (e.g. there's a couple of tmes when the characters are outside in a park (for instance) where it looks like it's a 2D animation on top of a static background instead of the integrated feel you normally get between the background and foreground). The characters ... well this is a similar setup to many series in the same genre being based on a dating sim but I didn't really empathise with them like I can with other series, e.g. there's one character you are supposed to feel sorry for but it felt more like she was a whiney ***** who you'd be well rid of! I don't know what was wrong with it as it had al the elements to be a good series but it just didn't seem to gel, maybe due to the over use of pantsu and ecchi-ness. I'd say it was an ok series but nowhere near Kanon or Clannad (for example).

Ok, completely seperate from the previous posts but:

I've just started watching bleach again, i gave up when the vampire filler arc had got started, just thought it was dull and uninteresting. I've now skipped that part and gone straight to where it picks up again from the comics at ep 110. While it's much better again now, i can't help but notice the 2 years between me watching the soul society eps and the current eps has left rather gaping holes in my memory. What the hell had happened by the end of the soul society arc? I forget completely.

Oh and, i gave up on Naruto too, i stopped watching when the filler eps started and picked it up again when Shippuden started but thought it was rather pants. Inazuma has persuaded me that it's worth getting back into as it improves, do other people share this opinion or is he talking pap? :p

Aika R16 is one i've been meaning to get, I picked up the original a couple of months back and enjoyed it :)

I've been slowly watching my way through Pretty Sammy TV, and it's odd it can take me hours to watch a single episode (if it doesn't catch my attention i keep getting distrated*), but once i get into it it's oddly enjoyable.
I'm giving disk 4 a miss for a few days whilst I watch the new Rune Soldier thinpack which i'm thoroughly enjoying at the moment.

Well I've just had a good anime couple of days .... just finished Lucky Star vol. 3 (LE) .... very strange series in that nothing at all happens .... very much slice of life ... not sure it really deserves the treatment it is getting but it's good ... I do tend to find I like each episode better the second time I see it rather than the first.

But most of the time has been spent watching Ah My Goddess season 2 (Flights of Fancy) .... I finished getting the singles in the R1 boxset earlier this year but I tend to have a huge issue with watching this series in that every time I am going to watch it something else comes along ... I then think "ooo shiney" and watch that instead and put off and put off AMG .... but this time I decided that it must be AMG ....

.... and I am very glad I did. It's such a nice series and just such a pleasure to watch. It's one of those series that you start watching and then suddenly realise that you are 3/4 of the way through the series and you just haven't noticed how much you have seen as it just flows along nicely. I'm not going to give any spoilers as other may have not seen it, (for license reasons), but I had forgotten just how funny AMG could be with some definite LOL moments. You really need to have seen the first series in order to understand the character relationships but ... hey .... if you haven't seen that then you should watch them both!

Anyone got the number for the Goddess Helpline ... I want my own Belldandy :)

Shipuuden is getting good, Naruto is building up his skills now and it all seems to be leading up to a big finale of sorts or epic battles where Naruto's true power can be seen. .

Gonna have to check out Bleach I think!

Copy of Carameldansen I had on CD which I mentioned earlier is now on my iPod and does sound extremely similar to that on the original AMV mentioned.

Currently watching the Magikano boxset which seems ok at the moment.

Need to call up Fedex later this morning to pay the tax and duty on some DVDs which came from Japan the other week, (although I also need to ask them why some of the calculation appear to be wrong on one of the shipments meaning that I have been overcharged on it .... )

Got some of the R2(J) Clannad limited edition DVDs, (need vol #8 which appears to be out of stock everywhere even though the other volumes are in stock), .... nice extras with interesting little books and other strange thinks, (the little manually wound music box was nice). Also got the Clannad on TV Artbook which is really really nice and oneof the best I have seen.

It took me (from memory) at least two attempts to watch it, probably 3, I really wasn't in the mood for depressive at the time, but it really is good (and another love song adds to it).
