anybody considered going from a iphone 3g to an Omnia

I have to confess I am seriously thinking about swopping my 3g for one as I feel I would gain more from the video and camera as well as the turn based sat nav.

Id consider the Diamond and the Omnia. Understand that these devices use Windows Mobile, therefore you will probably find you need to use the stylus from time to time. The diamond has an internal stylus to the device, whereas the Omnia doesnt. Also, if you can wait, check out the HTC Touch HD as its looking like a sexy piece of kit.

My only warning would be to try one before buying. The O/S is a lot more complicated than that of the IPhone, however its got full freedom of the device and you can tweak it as you see fit. Persoally I prefer my Diamond over the Iphone by miles, but I dont mind fiddly software, adn having proper bluetooth is very handy, as is being able to use the device as a portable drive.

only reason i could see too have an iphone over an omnia/diamond would be the fashion reason

The omnia does have a stylus which attaches to the chord though iirc.

I agree, the more I look at the 3 the more I realise the Diamond and Omnia ARE the better phones.

Sure the Iphone is slicker but in fact it's a classic example of eye candy attracting people. It's so hobbled in it's real capabilities it's almost laughable.

Totally agreed, i had the new iphone and yes it was great when it worked ie browsing the net was pretty awesome i have to say but compared to the Diamond on other parts....the iphone just couldnt match up. So ended up taking the iphone back for a refund as i couldnt justify the features.

The Diamond for me has become a truly brilliant phone, flashed a few roms and its working better and better everytime i flash to a new rom...not official roms but ones from xda developers. I absolutely detested browsing the net on my Diamond but lately im finding it an absolute joy to browse.

I'll probably get the iphone 3g...my gf has agreed to get me one for my bday...dunno if ill keep or sell it...depends on if it can be unlocked.

Exactly.

I've been through the "I want an iPhone" phase but specifications-wise, Omnia/Diamond beat it.

I've never owned an iPod or used iTunes properly (the main reason why I wanted an iPod) but until they release a version with a decent camera and flash, I won't consider it.

i hate the fact u have to put all your music on through itunes and not just drag and drop like you can with WM devices. My GF got the iphone and i got the omnia and i must say, the omnia is way better in my opinion.

also divx on the omnia is a win for holidays and long journeys

It really depends on what you want. If you want the power and flexibility the iPhone is missing then the Omnia is great. You'll love everything it brings. But the trade of is it just isn't as slick to use, its not as "smart" for day to day things and the interface is slower then the iPhones. Web browsing still doesn't feel as "nice" as the iPhone either, despite the fact its technically a better browser. I have both in front of me, and in all honesty, I'd choose the iPhone, if it wasn't for the good exchange support I needed.
