Giving Blood

I used to give blood, despite a horrible fear of needles. Wasnt a pleasant experience but I could get past it because it was the right thing to do. Last time I went, around 2 years ago, I collapsed afterwards, white haze infront of my eyes, ringing in my ears.. Not sure what triggered it but I havent been able to get myself to do it again since.. :(

go in. fill out a form. do a blood/iron test. give blood. eat free biscuits and drink free orange juice :D

ive done two, great feeling. they want me to donate platelets now instead :)

I usually see notices up in the local area about a week before they come. At university usually in the dining halls and the corridors. At home in Wales on local notice boards or even in the local newspaper. They have a habit of going to the large supermarkets / town halls / schools (after the kids have been chucked out for a day) in a big lorry (That's all set up with seats inside it).

You should do it, you get free biscuits and a cuppa!

Ever had sex with a woman that has had sex with a man who has had sex with a man? even if it's just oral.


If you answered yes to any of these questions you are unsuitable to donate.

Thats exactly it :D I actually enjoyed doing it, and the women was lovely, i want the same women again next time she was ace :D And she said she had been donig it longer than ive been alive! (19 years in 3 weeks) :D

Same things as blood iirc, but there might be a few extra medical tests they do.

Dunno how they contact you, I canny give blood/platelets/marrow.
 
I have my 4th coming up, need to find the best place in Canterbury to do it though as my next home scheduled one is around 20th November, but i won't be in the county, i highly doubt i will forget it though as i can only imagine the amount of advertising there is going to be at university, with all those fit healthy people around lol.
 
i'm going to give blood for second time as soon as i can but i'm on antibiotics atm so need to finish them first. how do you know if you can give platelets?

Next time you donate, read over the leaflets and if you're serious about doing it, just mention to the nurse that you would like to join the register and they'll take some more blood out of you to test separately for the bone marrow stuff! I did mine about 4 months ago and haven't heard anything yet, but they'll contact you if you're a match I would guess.

I've never had sex with a man. But I have slept with a woman who has slept with a Bi guy. So I don't know. :confused:

Nothing on there about that. Only needley drugs.

Yes the bone marrow probably hurts, but whats pain when you are someones last chance at life? The chances are you will never be a match to anyone, its something like a one in a million chance. Theres 2 ways of doing it, one is harvesting it from you blood with special drugs.

is it not you can't give blood if you've got a tattoo within the last 6months or year or something?

also you've got a fear of needles yet you have tattoos? :confused::p
 
Im telling u sumin, i gave enough blood to the field today!

Got my nose smashed open twice in 2 tackles and its poored all day n wotn stop!

Giving life to the grass eh!

I actually cant wait for my second time, i thought it was ace that i did it and it felt quite good knowing i may have saved someones life.
