g/card(s) for a £2k gaming rig

Why would you choose 2x 512MB 4870's over a single 2GB 4870 X2?

becuase 2 x 4870 in crossfire is probably faster than a single 4870x2.

pls dont eat me if im wrong cos i havnt looked at the benchies yet.

1 thinks for sure it would look better:cool:

More expensive, same speed or slower in 99% of things, less efficient.

Gotta get the whole lot for £2k. Monitor, speakers, keyboard etc.... so £2k doesnt go as far as you think, water cooling is out the equation.

Not seen the youtube comparisons, will go look now.

Both boards are good boards I personally prefer the 790i more. But the X48 is just as good and especially if you like multi gpu gaming with either crossfire or SLI respectively. But the 790i has high inital setup costs compared to the intel based chipset equivalents.

The cost of DDR 3 ram for a start although things have improved since they were first released. I always felt that when using the 790i board it "felt faster" than say when I ran either the same dual core and quad core chips on my X48. I am not saying it is 100% but things always felt more responsive whether in windows or playing games. It could be very much well be a placebo effect

The SSD's are fast, but dont know if they are fast enough more than a HDD for the money, when another g/card could be dropped in.

Hmmm,

So scrap the SSD and go for X48 and 2 x 4870x2's then OR 790i and 2 x GTX280's?

has anyone suggested CrossfireX 4870X2's? or is that not up and running properly yet...?

:D lol!

Edit: Oops, didn't see the above post! lol! Too much cider tonite!

One X48 and one 4870 X2... why do you need two of them... just for bragging rights? Because not only does a single card handle anything out at the moment, but dual cards will be so horribly CPU limited as to make them completely uneconomical. It all depends whether you're buying the PC for practical purposes... or just getting an unecessarily extreme rig just for the sake of it. :)

For 2k I'd go for the 4870 x2 and if you need a full system -
