Edmonds begins TV licence boycott

I think the issue isnt against those who have a license, but is aboutt he way those people who legitimately dont need a license are harrased ad threatened.

I had a mate at work who had no TV and so no license. The Licensing people sent him letters saying they would prosecute unless he paid. He rung and explaned and they said they would come serach his home then drop the investigation, but they would only be able to search when he was in. So he asked them when they would be comming and they said they couldnt tell him as it allowed him time to plan (hide TVs). They basically said they would arrive at a time convinent to them and if he wasnt in, they would prosecute. I never did find out what happened, but either way it was a total farse.

I haven't had one for two years - nor a TV. I don't miss that tripe one bit.

They threatened and threatened and eventually I just got pee'd off and asked them to come to my house once and for all and I would show them around - no TV licence. And they quit bugging me.

I own a 32" hdtv and have no intention of paying a tv licence when I move to my uni halls later on today. I strictly use it for consoles and nothing else. With iplayer offering what it does, I see no need to pay the premium to watch live broadcasted tv.

today? why are you moving in today?!?!?!

There's growing evidence they dont even need the license fee anyway. Last year BBC worldwide made £111m profit. I think they made even more this year but I cant find the news article. My argument has always been that the license fee pays for good programmes but if theyre making money and can still make the programmes then why not GIVE BACK some of their 'tax' to the public.

I take it all these that don't feel they should pay don't use other BBC services at all?

BBC Worldwide is a subsidiary that flogs programmes to other countries, dvds and other tat. I'm sure they quite merrily spend all that profit within the main organisation. £111 million is peanuts - the money raised by the BBC from the license fee last year was in excess of £3.3 billion.

When they turn up on my door, I'll say look i download my TV shows. I don't have a TV license because I don't need one, I don't watch BBC. Ha!

And then I'll get a bigger fine for copyright infringement...No Doubt.

No TV = Happier more fulfilled life.

There is a TV in my house, her ladyship watches it, I do not. Best thing I have ever done is give up the idiot box. Edmonds is right.

no when they knock at the door, you say the owner is out and you will pass a msg and shut the door.

why, why can't the BBC just be forced to use adverts, I for one find 99% of stuff on the beeb awful, I don't watch the channel as standard and it becomes a bit of a joke to pay £40 for sky a month to get footie and a few other channels we want, plus licence fee for a channel we don't want on top of it.

AS someone said, there ARE adverts on BBC, there is constant advertising for their own programming and while I'm not sure I'd prefer a McD's advert over a eastenders one, I can happily ignore either so couldn't give a monkeys whats actually being advertised.

While I don't always want adverts, sometimes I want a break, food, drink, take a slash. With pausing on sky its not really an issue though most people don't have it, advert breaks have their use aswell.

I think BBC quality in programming has vastly dropped, docu's are getting much worse, the general programming, the amount of quality films they show, the amount they poor into eastenders and the other freaking terrible "high end" programming they do, Doctor Who is woeful and I'm sure costs them a fair whack.

They also happily show adverts in other countries on their channels, and happily sell their shows for syndication to channels in other countries that show ad's, thereby getting a higher price due to ad's.

I download most of my tv to, not least because 99% of the stuff I watch can't be gotten in high def unless you download it. Surely the big US companies could make a lot more money if they made episodes available for download directly from them say a few minutes before transmission but with the adverts in the download. As currently people download them with the ad's edited out.
