Devil May Cry 4 - Worth getting?

Been playing this for most of the day, just started at Dante.

I've only played DMC2 before this, and this is better in every way. The variety of moves/styles, the graphics, the cinematics, it's all brilliant as hack n slash games go.

*very happy bunny* :D

Its one of the many games on my list but I dont have enough hours in the day (still only dabbled with Mass effect, have COD 4 still sealed on the shelf and Crysis warhead arriving next week)

Personally woudln't bother. I was expecting so much more from this. The waypoints system is crap (too far apart and when you get killed, which you will, you end up going back miles), the camera angle is rubbish and very hard to control (when you have to push these blocks onto other blocks its very hard to see what the heck is happening). Combat is very repetitive and most things can be taken down with the same tactic.

There's loads more but the above is more than enough to think twice.

Seeing it is a specific game type that you don't like, unless you know the OPs personal tastes it would be a bit hard to tell him not to bother on the things you pointed out as that is the game type of play & it is has been for the 3 version so far, it must appeal to many for it to be its 3rd run & every one has been a huge hit.

I'm not going to PICK up a RTS & then tell people not to bother as its a specific game type that i hate.

Been playing it for a bit and runs very well even on dx10 version using 360 pad but when used on keyboard is a lot harder

if you get it cheap enough maybe as its repeats itself

I think you should re-read what I said. I wasn't complaining about the game type I was complaining about this game. The game's camera angles, repetitive combat, run from this to this, move these blocks on to these stones, etc. all make the game very boring. I'm not saying people won't buy it (after all I did) but it doesn't make it a good game.

I love this game type and thats why I got it. I love Legacy Of Kain series, Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, all of which are third person combat / adventure games and I expected this to be on par with them however this was just a poor effort.

On the plus side the graphics are good, the sound is good for the first 10-15 minutes the game is good. But then it gets very boring, very quickly. So stop trying to tell me that I hate a game type based on the comments of one game in the genre.

Tbf, Splinter Cell and Tomb Raider are nothing like this, the only thing they have in common is the camera angle, which would mean I could compare Psychonauts or GTA SA as well. :p

I'd definitely recommend. I've never played a DMC game before but I thought DMC4 was loads of fun and a treat for the eyes. Everything about the game is very polished, including the graphics engine which seems almost perfectly optimised for PC hardware.

All the same genre. 3rd person action/adventure. Not exactly the same (then again no two games are) but the ideas the same. It's just done better in the other games than this. This is more trying to be like, I don't know, some kind of cross between Tekken and LOK. Some people will like that. I have lost patience now trying to battle the camera angle.

It's now available for £18 on well known sites.

Indeed DMC is a hack and slash action game where as Tomb Raider is an action/advanture platform and Splinter Cell is a stealth action/adventure game. They are nothing like each other in hardly any way apart from the camera angle as suggested!
